Rep came to our business to represent a card processing machine. I did not want it. He said if we tried it and didn't want it we could send it back. We had 60 days before any of the agreement kicked in. We cancelled before 60 days.

They were taking money left and right from our business account for all kinds of fees. The use of the machine was only to cost 112 dollars a month. When we called leasesoure they replied you signed the paper, we have you now.

They said they didn't care what the rep told us. We owe them 5000.00 dollars for the lease even if we cancel with encore or any other party in this deal. The worse part yet is we have two businesses that we were going to try out for 60 days.

Wow we owe them 10000.00 dollars. The machine was never used in one business at all. The rep of these companies told us he was a police officer and worked parttime as ems. We straigt out asked about the noncancelable lease and he replied doesnt mean anything until 60 days of this signing.

I thought a police officer could be trusted in his word. These companys are training their reps to flat out lie to people to trick them into signing to make these companys rich. They will get you by lying cheating and stealing. They are preying on small business owners. This is how these companys are becoming rich.

We were lied to, and it will cost us 10000,00 dollars because of companys like these. It should be against the law to prey on victims by training their reps to be deceitful and not tell the real truth. And when asked a question to tell the truth. Otherwise I would never be in this situation.

They are scandeling con artist. No lease or agreement should be binding where deceitfulness exist. If truth was spoken and trained to be spoken how much money would they make these companys are all responsible for the way they do business.

These two companys know exactly what is going on. False representation of every element of misleading information to get you to sign the dotted line. And owe thousands of dollars to them. Yes they steal your trust and money! I will do what it takes to help stop these deceitful companys.

This scam is well documented all over the web

AUTHOR: Dave - Jacksonville (U.S.A.)

You need to close your bank accounts so they cannot get any more money. Then, you need to send a letter completely documenting the experiences, conversations and promises that you were told. You will send a copy of this letter, certified, to Encore. You will tell them that you will not be a victim of their fraudulent practices and they will come and get their equipment.

If you have any witness to the converstions you had with Encore, that will be very useful.

Also, the guy that sold it to you was probably not a cop, he just said that to win your trust. Do NOT pay them any more money. The piece of equipment you are leasing for 112.00 month can be bought as Sams or anywhere for about $400 or less. You were screwed. Don't let it happen again. You have the power of the internet, USE IT.

Read First ...Sign Second

AUTHOR: Dustin - Salem (U.S.A.)

As a small business owner myself and a independent sales rep of Encore, I can verify that THE SALES REP not Encore the company is who ripped you off. As in everything in life there is always a few bad apples, you just happened to get the rotten one!

I have been through all of Encore's corporate training and believe me when I say that Encore does not train their sales reps to rip anyone off. The 60 day trial is only for the processing services not the terminal lease. Also there are 2 separate applications that you signed, one for processing and one for the lease.

If you read the Processing Application it does have a 60 day trial, however the Lease Application does NOT! If the sales rep told you it did HE LIED but please understand that Encore as a company is not in the business of ripping off anyone.

If you want me to discuss this matter with Encore Corporate I would be glad to. Please email me any information you think might be important.

Dustin

bank recieves at least 3 phone calls per day involving this company

AUTHOR: Debra - Salisbury (U.S.A.)

if encore payment systems was such a good company they would not keep the reps that are lying to merchants.the rep that encore sent to our door is still working for them.and our bank told us that they get at least 3 phone calls per day on merchants that have been ripped off by encore.they have been reported by banks as fraudulant.encore is totally responsible for their employees.try to call them with a complaint !their customer relation people are very rude.the way they sell their services are not telling the whole truth to merchants.call a couple banks and ask them if they have had any complaints on this company.of coarse encore is going to deny that its them.and blame their reps but its seems to me they would fire the bad reps.but guess what?they DONT!and i have proof.bottom line small business owners if anyone comes to your door representing encore Find the biggest stick you can and run them out as fast as you can or they;ll stick you with more then you asked for.i can get other businesses to confirm that encore doesnt tell the whole truth!

Im sorry

AUTHOR: Tim - Kansas City (U.S.A.)

I used to work for this company and I have a former client/ friend that I signed up for an encore lease. I understand how you got confused and I also understand why the sales rep may have mislead you. Encore promises the world in training and once you get out there-they see the reality- alot of these guys are living paycheck to paycheck and they say what they need to to get the job done and order filled. I dont agree with this companies business practices and I pray that you and your family will get through it.

Equipment, Employees and Processing

AUTHOR: Jason - Appleton (U.S.A.)

First off, I cannot imagine why anyone would lease a credit card terminal. Especially at $100+ a month. New machines can be purchased for less than $500 and used ones for even less.

Let me be clear on this:
IF YOU ARE LEASING A CREDIT CARD TERMINAL YOU ARE A FOOL. THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST RIP-OFFS IN THE BUSINESS WORLD TODAY.

Even worse, the machine you purchased is probably the Encore 9000 which appears to be a proprietary terminal that can only be used with Encore Payment Systems. (Please correct me if I am wrong, anyone.) This means that after you have paid off your lease and your term agreement with Encore, your $5K investment is just an ugly doorstop if you want to work with a different company. You'd actually have to buy new equipment. Would you purchase a computer that could only be used with your existing internet company? A telephone system that could only be used with your existing phone company? Look for industry equipment staples like Hypercom, Verifone, Ingenico and Lipman to assure flexibility.

Second, the sales rep who came to your door is not an actual employee of Encore Payment Systems. He is a contracted independent representative who only makes money on completed sales and leases. He and he alone is responsible for his representation of the terms of all agreements and does not have a vested interest in how this reflects on the company.

Take Dustin's post above for instance. Dustin states that if the agreement was properly read, Debra would have known there was no 60 day window on the equipment lease. Why not include that tidbit of information orally? I may be old-fashioned, but discussing a 60 day trial period and not mentioning the fact that it only applies to the services and not the terminal is a lie of omission. To make matters worse, what in the heck are merchants supposed to do with the equipment if they decide to cancel the services if it can only be used with Encore processing services? I somehow doubt that is mentioned.

Lastly, I'm sure Debra made her choice based on the rates and fees that Encore shared with her. It is a little known fact that MasterCard and Visa (AMEX and Discover are separate independent entities) have fixed rates for the over 240 different card categories they have designated and actually receive 75% or more of the fees that merchants pay. Every merchant processor pays MasterCard and Visa the same rates. What does this mean? It means that given the fixed costs, the total effective rate of processing with Encore Payment Systems will never be the best deal when the lease cost is considered. Most merchants don't include this in their cost of processing because it shows up as a deduction from their bank account and not on their merchant processing statement.

When considering a merchant processing decision, find at least 3 providers with similar priceing and then make a decision based on other criteria like service, support, education and compatibility. Don't accept bundled rates such as "Discount", "Mid-Qualified" and "Non-Qualified", either. Remember, Visa & MasterCard have many different categories such as retail, debit, rewards, world, key entered and corporate. Make sure a prospective processor shares rates for at lease 25-30 common card categories. If they say that this isn't necessary or that those cards aren't important then move on to someone else and don't look back.

I am a salaried and commissioned employee of a merchant processor, not a contract amateur, and I am repulsed by some behaviors in my industry. I detest the fact that I am thrown in the same category as the many processors who are listed in this website. I do however, treasure the opportunity to really help businesses and that is an opportunity that I often have. Unfortunately, most merchants don't take the time to research their decisions. Until this changes, I will be in the minority and posts like this will continue to appear.
