I entered the Famous Poets "free" poetry contest a few years ago. I got the book last October, and the pages were off center, and over 100 of them were so badly printed, it was un-readable. I also spent over 100 dollars on this book, only to get a very poor quality item in return. I never attended their “convention” which I was told in a letter was in Philadelphia, but then they said it was in Reno.
I then find out these people conned me and emailed them about a refund. Well, they got incredibly evil at this point and starting calling me names. Now I can't even say what they called me, but some were anti-Semitic slur words, while other times they called me a loser, fool, idiot, mindless, senseless weirdo and such, all because I wanted a refund and sent them emails showing their scam from websites that wrote articles about them and how the con works! Rather than try to defend themselves, they insulted me instead with horrible words!
I then had my boss email them recently since he was almost conned himself, and after hearing my story wanted to see it for himself. Just today they started up again, calling him a weirdo, and other names and making fun of his heritage as they saw it, based off of his Polish last name. When he got angry and sent them a final letter, some “Mark” sent him “beep, beep, you're disconnected, later weirdo”. All my boss did was the same thing I did, show the proof of their con, and he got treated just as badly as I did!
When I called they hung up right away because “a real poet is on the line” as soon as I mentioned a refund or their harassing manner of replying to emails. Now not only have I been wronged by these people, but now my boss has been and my work email is being spammed by several annoying and vile emails from contest@famouspoets.com or Mark@famouspoets.com. I reported their emails to AOL and they have done nothing because they are not affiliated with America Online. We were told there is nothing that anyone can do about the emails sent to our work lines. To make matters worse, they are now thinking my boss and I are the same person, as well as several coworkers just because we asked similar questions!
I'm tired of these people and the way they are treating me. I only sent them proof to back up my claim of them being a scam, and then they said that the BBB and ripoffreport.com are scams, not them. And not once, did they ever defend themselves against the proof I sent them, they would never even mention it, just laugh and call myself and others names, sometimes very offensive names that I can't say here.
These people are not only a scam, but they are also bigots.
