When I was 16 my mother was helping me look for a career oriented college program and or several colleges. When requesting information ITT sent out a college recruiter to our home and convienced my mother that I could go to school on government grants and she would have to pay cash difference. My mother and grandmother clearly requested that I could not go if they were to need student loans. We refused to give them my ssn when applying and I was only 16 at the time, so I could not take out loans. We told the recruiter that I didn't have transportation yet and would have to wait so the recruiter said well I can fix your car. He took my car to replace the radiator and fix it a few days later after signing a school contract - NOT loans. Weeks went by and I had started school having to get a ride because my car wasn't done according to recruiter. I was told to sign papers and pay 900 for left over expenses not covered by government grants. My mom scraped up the money and paid the school. I was attending regularly and getting good grades but still had not been able to get my car back from recruiter, he would never answer calls. Finally a few months later we found our car in the dangerous part of Detroit looking like someone was living in it. We had it towed home and complained to the school. Nothing happened other than the complaint caused them to start treating me badly. Thankfully I met a fellow school mate to car pool with and did so to complete first semester. Second semester came along and the first day of class the teacher said I needed to go down and sign papers and kept bugging me to sign papers for the weeks prior but told me I could not come back if I did not pay an additional 900 dollars as well. The harrassment was horrible in front of class and you have to remember I was only 16-17 years old. I homeschooled because of learning disability it was easier and so was a technical school. I had NO idea what I was signing that day which was also the last time I went back to the school, I quit on the second day of the second semester. 2 years later I went to apply for credit and found out I had 35k dollars in school loans from ITT. I NEVER signed student loans and neither did my mother. I contacted them and they said I did, and even if I was under 18 I was still responsible. I said I only went for 1 semester and dropped out because I did not have the 900 cash to pay in addition to the government grants that they had taken out AND I couldn't take the harrassment because of learning disability and lack of cash for education extortion. I am 23 now, and my life feels like it is over. I have debt beyond my wildest dreams for loans I never agreed to, ITT refuses to acknowledge their fraudulent loans and I can not get an education. I am now married with an 8 month old son and ITT took my life away and now I cannot support my family nor provide them a home or anything. They took advantage of a mentally diabled child and took loans out for 2 years I didn't even attend. I don't have any money to hire lawyers and what little tax refunds I get they take.
Do Not Trust ITT, they will take your whole life out from under you and there is nothing you can do. They took my car and trashed it, had to junk it. They took out over 30k in loans when I wasn't even a student and they won't help you or educate you when you pay for it. They abuse the disabled and they should be ashamed!
They ruined my life and at times I want to end it all because they took my future away with lies, deciet and abuse.
