NCO Financial made a negative inquiry on my credit report. I started to receive letters from them from two different accounts. One that is mine and the other that is not. I made the mistake of making a one time payment of $62 dollars to NCO and now I get calls all the time. Customer service in IGNORANT! I tod them mypay dates and they continue to call frequently.
I sent in a letter of dispute to the address provided to me for the account that is not mine and when I received the next call for payment; I asked if my letter was received the rep said yes and that it is dispute status. TODAY I received another call not on my payday and the girl was extremely rude, told me that my letter was not received, and gave me a different address than the one that I was originally given. I asked to speak to a manager and when I started to tell her of my concerns she HUNG UP on me!!!!!. I called the number thaty called me on back. There is no operator available and 1/800-220-2274 was provided. When I called this number the call was scrambled. Not A GOOD #.
I do not believe this! I am starting to wonder about this copmpany............
I think they call me all the time b/c they see that they can get $$$$$ out of me!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, this was a mistake...by making any payment to a collection agent you validate the debt as legitimate and you also restart the statue of limitations for the debt.
FYI, anytime you are contacted by a collection agent, the FIRST thing to do is request that they validate the debt. You are entitled to this under federal law...the Fair Debt Collection Act.
If you continue to pay NCO, get a WRITTEN agreement stating that they'll accept a specified amount as payment in full...If you don't do this it will be a never ending cycle...
NEVER EVER make a settlement agreement for debt over the phone....If you do...it's likely that when you pay off the "settled" amount, they'll just come back to try to collect on the full balance...When you bring up the fact that the settlement amount has been paid, they will deny that a settlement was ever reached....Be careful....NCO is a BAD company to deal with....They've been fined numerous times by the government for FDCA violations. Get any settlement terms IN WRITING.
****NEVER NEVER EVER give them (or any other collection agency) your bank account info/debt card info to make automatic debit payments....This can wreak havoc with your bank account...If they have this info they'll likely take out way more than you authorized...There's nothing to stop them once they have your bank account info...DO NOT give them this info...If you already have...cancel the bank account immediately.
Pay by USPS money order only...If they say they can't accept this...tell them "too bad."
