I am no longer employed by U.C.B. so I guess I don't have to "keep my mouth shut" anymore.

I knew it was coming. It all started about 6 months ago. Our supervisor "at the time" (more later on that) told us that U.C.B. is opening a new office. You would think it's 'good news', the company is doing so well that it has to open a 'new office'!! Wow, Great!! You would think it would mean "job security".

Well, the new office we find out is in COSTA RICA. Yes, COSTA RICA. That is why some of you debtors can't understand the collector on the other end. They are sending work to the Costa Rican's and letting American's lose their jobs. Our supervisor threatened that if we even said the word "Costa Rica" in conversation we would immediately be fired, on the spot.

Jump to 6 months later. Two weeks or so ago my superviser was demoted to "a collector". One week ago we were told there are big changes in store for our office. We were told most of our files are being transferred out of our office to another. Hmmmm?? I wonder where those files went? We were told that in a week we will be re-interviewed for other positions. No one was guaranteed a job. And guess what?? As of today I have no job. Isn't it wonderful that they would fire me at Christmas! But at least a "Costa Rican" has a job. You know how important that is to our economy!!!

I wonder how the United Collection Bureau clients would feel about this information?? After all, I am sure that is why we were told to "keep our mouths shut". Plus, you can find this information online already, so it's public information. I need everyone's help to get the word out. I can't do it all on my own. Maybe we can work together and shut them down.

By the way, I am not a nasty collector and I could not believe some of the stories I read on here of how debtor's are treated. I read many violation's of the F.D.C.P.A. It really made me sick.

I'm so sorry to hear about the hell you went though up there.  If it makes you feel any better, they pulled the same games with us in Costa Rica.  I don't want to mention any names, but you nailed their tactics right on.  I understand that people lost their jobs up there and there are more to go.  I left a while ago, but I have friends that still work there.  In fact, one of them is in charge of HR.  He told me that they were going to be bringing more seat, who knows if they are telling him the truth.  My friend who works for APS, the people that do medical billing, told me they are going to move the entire business from the US to Costa Rica to save money and that the people up there have no idea what's coming.  I understand saving money, cutting costs, etc. but these people don't care who they hurt.  Many of my co-workers are still looking for work after UCB fired 40 collectors becuase they rebelled after the manager had an affair with a collector then promoted him to supervisor.  It's not as easy to find a job here, especially when you've been fired from an American company.  They are mean people I am happy to be away from.  You should be too.

Good afternoon Stacey, I completely understand your situation, however I do wish to put in my two cents.  I worked in UCB Lagunilla, Heredia Costa Rica and aprox. a year ago and I can tell you it was no bowl of cherries.  I can remember a day when the woman whom is in charge Carol said that she was happy to be in CR because she saved on taxes but that she in no way wants to be remotely mistaken as a CostaRican.  Costa Ricans are humble people not stupid, They work hard to make the couple of bills they get paid.

I'll tell you I have worked for many companies in the USA and Costa Rica and have never heard the way clients are a/o were treated.  I remember once being told that I would not be effective in collections because I was not aggressive like and American.  I have many American friends and have been here since I was 3 years old and do not ever remember any of them being, mean, rude or nasty to others. I heard collectors say, "We wouldn't call you if you paid your damn bills!" "We'll call you as many times as it takes for you to undertand you have to pay this"  "I'll track you down till you pay" and on top of encouraging this they push the employees to obtain payments however possible.  I remember hearing this most from the GAS account dept. telling people they would cut off the gas and not resstore it until they paid.  Medical billings I can't say, but for what they pay in salaries, please. Credit Card collections has or had a Team Leader whom was than moved to the GAS dept. named OZ that is a jerk and a snake. He has no morals, back stabber and liar has his picture of him as a description. I know many others were fired after I left, supervisors were changed and other incredible BS.

I am no longer with UCB because I spoke up, I may be CostaRican but I don't allow anyone to step on me or humiliate me. Yes, Taking jobs from USA to other countries effects our economy but the mistreatment and lack of respect isn't worth all the money in the world.
