Velocity Express Cheating Drivers on pay, Unexplained Deductions, Forcing Work on drivers, etc hickory, North Carolina

My father started work for velocity express in feb of 2011. He was PROMISED 1200 a week flat rate if he rented a truck and 1100 a week if he owned his own truck which has been a 16 ft box truck to a 10 ft box truck.

He never saw a 1200 dollar check. There were unexplained deductions on his paycheck. They were charging him rent for the scanner, airtime for the scanner, cargo loss insurance?, 27 dollars a week to receive a paycheck plus more deductions.

He wasnt able to make enough on this job so he took a new job offer and i took over for him as a substitute driver. I had to take a drug test that i have paid for who only knows how long. After i started the checks were getting smaller and smaller.

I was making between 8 and 9 hundred a week but after paying 300 a week in fuel and between 3 and 4 hundred a week in truck rent i wasnt making hardly anything. Thats when i started picking up on the lies. So i started investigating.

I was being forced to deliver freight that was well out of the way of my route which ran up the miles on the truck that i had to pay for and using more fuel for deliveries that was paying 1 to 2 dollars a stop. It gets worse.

My dad asked the terminal manager if the out of route deliveries would be an everyday thing and the manager said no, however it was a continuous thing. The checks were still getting smaller.

It was only after threatening to leave that they decided to do something about the pay. They increased the pay by about 50 dollars a week. Not enough to even make a difference. I found out this company has had a bunch of lawsuits in the past.

They have also filed chapter 11 bankruptcy in the past. This company is full of liars and they cheat they're drivers every way possible and its only when the drivers threaten to leave they want to pay up. I strongly advise people considering working for this company, please, for your sake and your families sake DO NOT do it.
