On January 2000 I applied for a Target Visa I have had this account in good standing for 4 years now and before that I had a Target Guest Card which was also in good standing. Never have I been late on a payment. On January 12, 2004 Retailers National Bank notified me by a letter stating that as of February 2004 they were changing my Interest Rate from 18.9 to 21.9 because of a recent credit report they had ordered on me.

I called them to rebut there decision stating that the information on a 1997 deliquency was due to be removed in July of 2004 because the information was 7 years old and since that time I had no other deliquency's that my debt ratio was much less than when they issued me the card in 2004. I now owe less make more money and have a higher credit score. I only have two other credits cards and they are paid in full each month if used.

I dont understand there decision I have flawless credit history with Target & Retailers National Bank. I have sent a letter closing the account which will freeze my rate at 18.9%. I also informed Target Credit Services that I will never buy so much as a gum drop from them. I am through with shopping at Target and I do plan to close my account with mervyns and never shop there again.

I hope this will let a lot of people know that Retailers National Bank is one of the worst credit card company's I have ever done business with. If they do this to there A-1 customers what are they doing to someone who has less than perfect credit.

I have recently learned that Target and Mervyns in california will not allow Toys for Tots or any other Military charity Origination to gather toys or money for charity. But they will allow non military groups to ask for money on there property. Thats all the reason I need not to shop at Target. I support the military.

One bad apple ALWAYS spoils the crop

AUTHOR: Mark - Ogden (U.S.A.)

Linda,

I understand your frustrations you are going through in your story. I'm not 100% positive on this answer, but am confident in my reasoning that I am providing for you. Even though your delinquincy was in 1997, you have to understand that credit agencies/bureaus cannot make an exception for just one of it's customers and leave the rest out in the cold. With working for a major retailer such as Target, I have learned that when you work for such a big nation-wide company you have to follow the rules and try not to make exceptions. When you make exceptions you are putting the company, it's policies, and it's guests/customers in question. If I make an exception for one guest when I am at the service desk, I am then obligated to make exceptions for every guest that comes my way, and before you know it you have a decreasing profit, and failing store and business. You are probably wondering...what the crap does this have to do with me, but it does. RNB cannot make an exception on your delinquincy and interest rate, if they did they would have to make an exception on every delinquincy report adn interest rate. Now please don't think that I am trying to protect them, but major companies have to do things by the book...strictly. If i were you, I would be waiting until July 2004 and see if your interest rate would be reduced, if it isnt' reduced then, I would call the Target Guest Credit Services and ask them why, then call the credit bureau such as Equifax and ask them why it hasn't been taken off...until then it's just tough luck...I'm sorry.
Also, with your comment about Target not supporting the troops and etc...I have to be honest it really struck a nerve, becuase for me...being someone on the inside I can see all the good that Target is doing nationally and locally. If you really stand by your opinion, I would ask you to go to www.targetcorp.com or www.target.com and click under hte "Target does support the troops" link and see for yourself what Target does for our troops...also on www.target.com under the "community giving" link you can see other sponsorships and volunteer activities being done by Target to help their local communities.

Also the Target Guest Card and Target Visa allow it's users to do what anyother card doesnt' offer (to my knowledge). Everytime you use your Target Credit Card 1% of each purchase is donated to a designated to school of your choice (the school you designated on your credit application or you can designate one by calling hte # on the back of your card.) It doesn't sound much, but it adds up to more than $2 million dollars per week donated on behalf of Target Corp and it's guests to k-12 schools all around the nation. Honestly this is the ONLY reason why I use my Target Guest Card...and I would strongly encourage any of the Card holders to pay off the balance of the card right after EVERY purchase, that way you dont' have to worry about late fees, interest rates, and so on. I hope this information will help you out. Thanks for your time.

Same old Story... Kohl's has also done this to me and several of my friends.

AUTHOR: B - St. Charles (U.S.A.)

This has happened to me before. A company decides to lower the limit based on VERY past history. What ever you would like to claim the companies policies are do not excuse that this company waited for several years to reduce her limit. It even sounds like the delinquency had notheing to do with target. Kohl's has also done this to me and several of my friends. It seems like we are punished for past behavior. If you currently have clean credit and good standing what policy makes it okay to take away someone's spending priviledges?
