I received an email today regarding Serve.com and a "Monthly statement" that was finally available to me. There were links given to access my "account," as well as text boxes in order for me to send my information. On the bottom there included information detailing that this had something to do with an American Express card. Because I do not have an American Express account, let alone have anything to do with something called "Serve.com," I was wary right away.

I did some online investigating and found that the site was run by American Express and there was no record of any account in my name. So I called the 1800 number that was listed and immediately I was prompted to authorize a "card I had just received." I had no choice but to decline and follow the prompts until I was connected with a live person. When I asked, she told me that I had signed up for something called Revolution Money (which I have never done), and that the email was asking me to update my account. I explained that I had never done that, and that I do not have either a card from American Express nor an account with Revolution Money/Serve.com. Then she asked me for personal information, such as my email address and my phone number in order to "take me out of the system." I refused and she became very agitated with me, telling me that I was misinformed and that there was nothing shady about her questions or the company she represented. She continued to argue with me and told me that I had to have signed up for it. I explained that I looked for my account with their website already and had found none. At this point she immediately called for her "supervisor."

I told him the same thing I told her and explained that it sounded like American Express was trying to phish for customers by saying they already had accounts. He was silent for a moment and then asked me if I would give him my email and phone number and he would remove me from the system. I told him not a chance and promised to contact this site, as well as others. He started to argue that it was unnecessary to report it and I hung up.
