I PAID IN FULL MY DAUGHTERS ACCOUNT, WITH LATE FEES AND HIGHT INTREST 24.9%. SHE WAS BEHIND, MOVED HOME, CHANGED COLLEGE BUT HAD BILLS THAT SHE WAS BEHIND ON. WE LIVE IN RUAL AMERICA AND THE MAIL IS SLOW TO GET FROM HERE TO THERE AND BACK AGAIN. MY DAUGHTER IS OVER 21 AND FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR BILLS. I BAILLED HER OUT, ONCE THE BILLS WERE FORWARDED HERE. THE CREDIT SERVICE WILL NOT TALK TO ME BECAUSE IT IS HER ACCOUNT, BUT HAD NO PROBLEM TAKING MY CHECK TO PAY OFF THE BALLANCE. THEN BECAUSE MY CHECK WAS RECIEVED "LATE" BECAUSE OD SNAIL MAIL HAD THE GALL TO CHARGE ON THE ACCOUNT A LATE FEE, $35, FINANCE CHARGE $24.89 TOTAL $59.89 ON A ZERO BALLANCE ACCOUNT. IF I FOLLOW THE STATEMENT CORRECTLY IT STATES PREVIOUS BALLANCE XXXXXXX PAYEMENT & CREDITS XXXXXXX (TOTAL PAY OFF) PURCHASES & ADVANCES 0.00. HOW CAN THEY CHARGE LATE FEE AND INTREST ON A ZERO BALLANCE? THIS IS UNAMERICAN AND I LET THE VISA PERSON KNOW THIS BEFORE I HUNG UP ON HER. ANY HELP PLEASE.

Fees are Fees If you give a late payment

AUTHOR: Michael - Montgomery (U.S.A.)

If you give a late payment, on anything, there is usually a cahrge for it. Credit Cards are no different. While it is unfortunate that this happened to your daughter and you had to bail her out, she knew there was a bill to be paid and when that payment was due, or there would be consequences. I am sure that in the credit agreement that would have been given to her when she applied for the card AND mailed to her with the actual card there states a policy about late payments and fees associated with them.

About your comment "THE CREDIT SERVICE WILL NOT TALK TO ME BECAUSE IT IS HER ACCOUNT, BUT HAD NO PROBLEM TAKING MY CHECK TO PAY OFF THE BALLANCE", Target will accept any form of payment (except credit) to pay off their credit cards that you could pay with to purchase items.

While it isnt that important who is paying money on an account than who is calling and asking for information about the account. If you would have gotten your daughter to call and put you on the account or something, then they could discuss specifics about the account with you as well. It is a protective measure to keep others from gaining information about you or your possesions. If they did, then someone who found the card or card number could call and get the balance and max out the card without making Target do a routine check to see if they are you.

Also, I believe the interest would have been applied to the balance before it was paid off late, so that should explain the 24.89.
