"I recently went on vacation and went over on my credit card by 9 dollars. I didn't notice it for about 3 days because it was a finance charge that brought my credit card over the limit. They charged me 80 dollars for overspending for 3 days."
Does this ROR scream customer negligence or what?
First of all, spending even close to a CC limit is about as intelligent as checking for gas leaks with a lighter. CC's obviously make alot of money from finance charges (and OTL fees) so when that average daily balance calculates, yes, it could potentially put you over the limit. This is clearly stated in the LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT that you signed when you opened the account. Let me guess, you didn't read that did you?
Second of all, despite the fact that you only went over nine bucks, you're still over the limit. Rules are rules and you broke them. Now face the punishment. What do you tell police officers that pull you over for speeding? "Gosh officer, I was only going twenty miles an hour over the speed limit. That's not alot." Yeah, right! Welcome to Ticketville, population: you.
Third of all, even on vacation, you have to pay attention to your finances. Quit slacking. You've got a 24 phone service, ATM's, and the internet to use to check your balance and account activity, so the "No one told me!" excuse won't work anymore.
I can't wait for Edward and Ronny G to start up their "Banks made a gazillion dollars last year in fees" speech or the legendary "The government will make the greedy banks pay" bit. Oh man, I'm counting the moments. Bring on the excuses!
