I just took a look at my credit card statement and it seems that Credit One Bank has increased their online payment 'fee' - It's now $7.95 a transaction! Add that to the $5.95 per month we're likely all paying per month towards the 'annual fee' and what do you get? Answer: a grand total of $13.90 per month JUST TO PUT THEIR CARD IN OUR WALLET.

$7.95? Really?! I have a card through Household Bank. Free online payments. I also have a card through Capital One. Stop me if you know the answer, but yes, it's free online payments as well.

Sure, I could mail them a check, but oh wait. This is 2008!! Who the heck still mails checks? I can't remember the last time I dusted off my checkbook. I also like the fact that I have a solid paperless trail with my online payments so I don't have to worry about 'missed payments' or 'late fees'.

Sure, I could call and cancel the card but after several numbers, lots of tries and absolutely no humans around (Daytime hours, needless to say!) I found this website.

If anyone has a direct phone number that gets me an ACTUAL HUMAN at Credit One, lemme know!

:)

Account: CLOSED!

AUTHOR: Stephan.ber - Falmouth (U.S.A.)

In order to reach a human you simply have to wait and hit lots of zeros - you'll tag your way through their menu prompts and when you finally get to a tiny bit of music (followed by an errie amount of 'did they just hang up on me?' filled silence) and then a recorded voice reminding you for (what you can only hope will be the VERY last time?) that they now accept online payments and the website address to go to for web access... Finally, yes, you get a H-U-M-A-N. :(

My call took twenty minutes before I even got to one and I didn't even call during peak hours.

Conclusion: With a credit card company that went from an already expensive $5.95 per online payment to a $7.95 per online payment (plus the $5.95 monthly card fee) you're now paying $13.90 a month just to keep their card in your wallet, not even to use it. Sure, you can take your chances with snail mail and a two week window to make sure the payment gets credited to your account to save the $7.95 but... Yeah. Skip this card. With other companies offering better cards (even at a higher interest rate) you'll still pay less and get more.

Same Problem Here

AUTHOR: Lightningonoceans - Oak Forest (U.S.A.)

I had the same problem. It should also be known that CreditOne does *NOT* tell you the amount of the processing fee when you are processing the online bill pay. They do tell you that you will be charged a fee, but not the amount. Also, realize this... if you DO pay your FULL amount online... you will have a new balance of $7.95. What I mean is... even if you use the online feature.. you still need to send a check!!! I paid my full $200 balance and was given a new balance of $7.95. Now I have to send a check to them for $7.95 because if I paid the $7.95 online I'd be charged another $7.95 and that would then become my new balance!! I attempted to negotiate with the woman on the phone. It took me hitting number 0 on my phone 3-4 times and than I had a 5 minute wait to get a human on the phone. When I told her that it was unfair for me to be charged $7.95, she told me it used to be $5.95 and that the website used to tell you that it was $5.95. Since she would not retract the fee, I was forced to close the account. They sure did rip me off! They got that $7.95 on top of the card's annual fee and a credit processing fee. I paid roughly $75 for a card I had for 2 months!! I'm trying to build my credit and my choices are limited but this is insanity.

Thanks for reading!

Guess I'm out-dated.

AUTHOR: Robert - Buffalo (U.S.A.)

""Sure, I could mail them a check, but oh wait. This is 2008!! Who the heck still mails checks?"

I do.

""I can't remember the last time I dusted off my checkbook.""

I dust mine off once per month to write a check and mail in my payment for my VISA card.

""I also like the fact that I have a solid paperless trail with my online payments so I don't have to worry about 'missed payments' or 'late fees'.""

I DON'T like the "no paper" trial. On line paying is OK until something goes WRONG. Then you have NOTHING tangible should you proceed to civil court. When it goes awry, you're at their mercy or more accurately, at the mercy of their IT department.

For now, I'll stick to the old fashion method. Oh, and yes, I get copies of my cancelled checks MAILED to me from Key Bank and they go into my filing cabinet.

To each his own. I still prefer a tangible PAPER trail.

A Tip to Avoid the 7.95 fee

AUTHOR: Melissa - Latrobe (U.S.A.)

I use my bank's online billpay service. The bill gets paid on time, and Credit One doesn't charge me a fee for paying online. Works for me. I have Citizen's Bank in PA if that helps.
