Aspire credit card activated?

AUTHOR: Holly - Brunswick (U.S.A.)

My son got an Aspire(Visa)card nine months ago.I have been in the process of researching this company(Compucredit) for him due to extremely poor business practices but I will not go into that in this response as he will be filing a report and you can view that. When he first recieved the card there was a sticker attached to the card itself with telephone number on it that you had to call to activate the card.Did you call the number? If you didn't call to activate I would strongly advise you not to.If you did call the activation number and are having this problem, try to see it rather as a blessing, you haven't put any charges on it so call and cancel the card - customer service number on back of card. Before you call you should(must)read your credit term agreement.

With a highlighter in hand(and a strong drink in the other)read it in its entirety and highlight everything that applies to your situation. When you call I would advise you before saying anything else, to simply inquire on your account balance.Hopefully its zero.

Once the CSR confirms that then tell them that you are calling to cancel the card. Be prepared for them to attempt to keep your business by making some offers-don't fall for it. Take down the reps name, thank him/her and bid them a nice day. Immediately follow up with a letter canceling the account in writing and make mention of your telephone conversation(include the reps name)with the date and time you called. Send it certified mail/return receipt(its worth the extra money) and make a copy of your letter for future reference and save your postal receipt.(staple it right to the copy of your letter)From the time that you get notification(usps confirmation)that they recieved it,figure 30 days from that date to send for a copy of your credit report. Remember to save those copies, you may need them to dispute any issues with the credit bureau(s).

Don't apply for any other credit cards until you are certain that your credit report reflects positively on this issue. I hope this has been helpful and I wish you the best.
