CAMCO Cease & Desist Rockford Illinois

I received a letter saying I owed CAMCO $1,980.45 for a Wells Fargo debt that had just been purchased by them. I've never heard of this company before. I called the contact person on the letter and told her I didn't have a Wells fargo account and she patched me through to someone who claimed to be the "Supervisor."

I repeated what I said to the other person and was told that I was, in fact, the debtor on this account. He spouted off the last four digits of my social security number and my blood ran cold.

I have never had a Wells Fargo account and have never been delinquent on any bills in my life. I told this man that I would contact Wells Fargo directly and see what they had to say. He then said, "You can call Wells Fargo all you want, lady, but you owe us this money. So how are you going take care of this?" To which I replied, "By implementing the Flash button on my phone....don't bother me again," and hung up.

The next day I received a message on the answering machine attached to the phone line that I had used to call them.

They have called every day since then and whenever the calls have been answered by someone who wasn't me and they were informed that I wasn't at home, they abruptly hung up.

I have written a Cease & Desist letter with CC:s to the three credit bureaus, the BBB, the FTC and the Illinois AG, and was planning on sending it certified with a return receipt requested, but the only address I have is a P.O. Box.

Can anyone out there tell me if there is another way to make sure they receive this letter and are bound by the law after receiving it?

I'd be most grateful for any help.

P.S. This is a really worthwhile site and I'm certain that it has helped many people understand better how to protect themselves.
