They did similiar thing to us. We decided we'll pay off the balance and close checking we have with Wamu. Also to make sure we'll not become victims again we stopped using credit cards althogether. I pay with cash or debit card. My monthly savings $800. When I used my card I just shopped, I didn't care how much I spent. Now, I only buy what I need and save the leftover money for later. Every time you swipe credit card the credit card company makes money. Don't. Stop using cards and I can assure you, you will thank me later. Don't be follower, be a leader. Don't let brainless schmocks from banks run your life. Even though the rules can change at any time regarding your credit card, promotional offers are separate offers and it is illegal for them to change the rules in the middle of the game. The problem is nobody will take them to court and fight. They have the legal profession at their disposal, the enitre US government and of course you'll pay for it. Because of credit cards and easy credit we pay outrageous prices for everything. So let it go. One person at a time.

A lot of credit card companies are raising their interest rates.... but for everyone of mine that did, they sent me a notice in the mail giving me the option to opt out of the higher interest rate but you have to return the form to them in time. If you do not, you are agreeing to the higher interest rate. You have to read everything they send to you in the mail.

I have learned a great deal in the past few hours! This is the only card I have a balance on but never really was worried about it being the primary loan to pay off because of the low apr. I have other cards but I only put my montly gas and food on it but pay it off every month (I do it for the travel points) and store cards ( I use for extra percentage off the total but have to be used inconjunction with the store card) I also pay off every month due to the high APR's. I was mainly putting all extra money into paying off a car I purchased a year ago (little compact to save on gas and insurance). I am done with all credit cards regardless if I pay them off or not! I am even sick of some of the fees banks are charging for "free checking" if you don't use enough checks or debit transactions each month. I was raised with my parents teaching me to be responsible with my credit, if you cant afford it by next month don't buy it. I am in my 30's have my home (used this 3.99 and 4.99% for the new furnace, roof and other little things), nice car and nice personal things. I have a solid job and I do ok with my pay from there. I guess I am still well off because I do have a job with todays economy but with everyting going on these days I have had it. I am going to bust my ass pay this thing off and I am done! Its cash for everyhting for now on! I hope other people also become like this and we'll see where the ecomomy goes from there! I don't see the feds bailing me out or helping me out in any way, only the big corporations. I also have too much pride and would rather bust my butt working to pay it off rather than file bankrupcy and lose what I have worked hard for. But does that even matter anymore? I know of a girl who has filed 2 times and still drives a new car and just moved into a new condo!!! Lord, I could go on forever but I won't, Thanks for listening while I vent! Lets all pay our stuff off and say "F- the credit companys" until they start being fair...which will be never!

If you go back and re-read the terms of the original contract - you will see that it is stipulated that they change the terms anytime they wish for any reason.
All the credit card companies are increasing interest rates due to the credit crisis they created. Most are raising it far more than 7.99%
Is it fair? NO - but you do not have a choice in the matter.
