I just signed up for the account they said there was a $39 activation fee and a annual fee that would be $5.95 a month, but they give you free credit report and that is less than the 9.95 you pay elsewhere. I get the bill for the $39.00 pay that and a fee of $7.95 shows up. I call them and they said that is the prosing fee, I said I have to pay the $7.95 each time I pay my bill and the lady said yes, then I told her I wanted to cancel my account. She said that was no other payments I needed to make and the $39.00 would be refunded. I looked all over the account and site and there is no mention of a $7.95 prosing fee for paying your bill. My first bill is due in 10 more days, but I wanted to pay in and not have to worry about it.

It's an online payment fee

AUTHOR: Nikki - Coconut Creek (U.S.A.)

The $7.95 is their fee for making the payment online. Yes, it does stink. And the choice is yours on whether you want to pay the fee to make your payments online, or send them in the mail. Incidentally, the fee was $6.95 until a few months ago.

I will say this. I have a Credit One card. Since I pay ontime every month, they have periodically raised my credit limit without charging me. Online payments get posted very quickly, within a day or two (they'd better for $7.95). They did not charge me at all for going over limit one month by $1, telling me I had a $40 leeway, and they report my limit to the credit bureaus as $50 more than it really is. And, when I call, I get to speak with someone I can understand.

All in all, other than the $7.95 online payment fee, it's a pretty good card to have. They don't seem to play games and I have been with them for 4 years (formerly FNBM).

By the way

AUTHOR: Nikki - Coconut Creek (U.S.A.)

As you are making your payment, before you hit the final process button, you are informed of the fee.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

which means you have the responsibliy of choosing to be "ripped off" or decline........

AUTHOR: Cat - Hendersonville (U.S.A.)

There's no ripoff here, all fees are up front. You are dealing with a credit card with enormous fees cause you do not qualify for a low interest rate credit card. In reality I would love you to choose neither. It is possible to be on a budget and live credit card and car debt free. It is called working as many jobs as it takes even if you have children at home. I did it, my husband still works 2 jobs and we live within our means. We pay CASH and you know what we get awesome deals with CASH!

The payment fee is only if you make the payment with your debit card

AUTHOR: Charles - Phenix City (U.S.A.)

I got confused with this to the payment fee is only you make the payment with your debit card, not with your checking account.

Its free when you pay with your checking account, I got this card to help build my credit the payment is only $20 a month.

The fee is assessed no matter which one you use.

AUTHOR: Nikki - Coconut Creek (U.S.A.)

I just went online like I was going to make a payment. I clicked on "use debit card" and the $7.95 fee was shown. I clicked on "use checking account" and the $7.95 fee was also shown.

Credit one

AUTHOR: Charles - Phenix City (U.S.A.)

When I made the payment using checking I was not charged with the $7.95 fee. You only have to pay the fee when you use your debit card which I don't have one.

#7 Consumer Suggestion

A VERY simple solution here! Just common sense.

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Harry,

There is no fee if you mail them a check or money order, or use your own bank's bill pay to pay them.

Nobody is forcing you to go to the Credit One website to make your payment.

No rip off here. You have options.

You ELECTED to pay the fee by using that convenience.

This is for Cat.

AUTHOR: Betty - Moreno Valley (U.S.A.)

Paying cash for things is awesome. I try to follow the Dave Ramsey advise, but this person wants to build up his credit. Not having a good FICO score is one of the things that I don't agree with Dave Ramsey. Just follow the other person's advise and pay your statements using Bill Pay with your checking account. Bill Pay is awesome and I love it. No charges from your credit card or your Bank and you are sure that payment is received on time with proof from your Bank. Never give credit card company the chance to go into your account. They can take more money than you agreed too. This poster paid alot to money to get this card so they can build up their credit.Paying cash will not help build your credit. You just need to control your spending and watch what you are doing and don't spend more than you have to pay each month.

Most credit card companies don't charge a fee to pay online.

AUTHOR: Charles - Phenix City (U.S.A.)

The only credit card companies who do make you pay a fee for making a payment are scam credit card companies.

No legit credit card company will make you pay a fee to pay or charge you a fee for everything.

This Is taking advantage of consumers, but hey we don't matter today sense bush became president. He made It possible for busineses & credit card companies to take advantage of us.

Not true, Charles...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - Chico (U.S.A.)

A bank that charges a fee for online payments is not necessarily a scam. In fact, quite a few legitimate banks charge that fee. The consumer has the choice to pay it or not.

I for one do not like the fee, so I just mail in my payments.
