Freedom Debt Management, Inc. ripoff- they further damaged my credit by not making timely payments and then refused to return the $1,000 "fee" once my payments were complete as promised. Boca Raton Florida

I signed up with them when I had fallen behind on my credit card payments because I was unemployed. They claimed that they were a free service that would help me to get my debt paid off without further damaging my credit. They did not pay my credit cards with my first payment, and they claimed that I would get the money (over $1,000) back when my debt was paid off. Because I could not make 2 payments of over $1,000 in the same month, by credit was further damaged by non-payment that month...some of my credit card companies refused to deal with Freedom Debt Managment because they said they were disreputable (including Sears) but Freedom did not let me know that it was not making payments on those accounts so I recieved collection calls and had to pull those accounts out of the program after a few months. Obviously, that few months while I was paying Freedom and they were not paying Sears also was reported adversly on my credit report. Now that I am back to work and my financial situation has eased, I refinanced my house and paid of my debt. Now Freedom refuses to return that first payment of over $1,000 that they held because I paid the debt off myself rather then allowing them to further damage my credit.
