GE CAPITAL CONS CARDCO Damaging Credit Reports after I paid off account on time and in full. Louisville Kentucky

I purchased an engagement ring from Whitehall Jewelers and opened a credit account for $1703.15 with 0% interest for one year. When the credit card and statement did not come within two weeks, I called the GE CAPITAL office and was told they needed to open up a new account.

I paid the new account in full on 8/01/03 and received a letter of pay-off as well as proof of pay-off on the monthly statement. I recently got a call from a collection agency 03/09/05, and they inform me that I owe $3949.40 to GE CAPITAL for an account in my name which hasn't been paid on since January of 2004. I have no idea what they are talking about, but spent over an hour on the telephone and missed a half day of work to fix this mistake.

The letter of dispute is in the mail. I have since found scores of problems on the internet in which GE CAPITAL is messing up other people's credit. I have a feeling this is the tip of the iceberg for me and I would like to be on any class action law suit against this company. They need to be sent a strong message that they are not immune to honest business practice and they are randomly and insensitively dealing with people's livelyhood when it comes to money.
