Sprint PCS Wireless Opening accounts over the phone without verifying accurate social security number consumer fraud ripoff corruption Internet

I recently found out that an individual has been using my social security number to open credit accounts. One of the incidences of fraud was with Sprint PCS Wireless. The individual set up an account with Sprint using my social security number and his name & address.

The account balance was written-off, and, therefore, is appearing as a collection item on my credit report. When I contacted Sprint to notify them of the fraud, I inquired as to their procedure for setting up new accounts.

I was told that they will open any new account over the phone with a social security number and birth date. They do not require new customers to set up accounts in person, hence, they never check a photo ID (ie. Driver's License), nor do they check a credit report.

If they had, they would have know that this individual's name and address did not jive with the social security number. They are facilitating fraud by not being more thorough in extending credit.

Now, I have to go through setting up fraud alerts through Social Security, the Federal Trade Commission, and the three major credit reporting agencies. Thanks Sprint!
