I received a check in the mail, saying I had won $450,000 from a drawing held on February 4th, 2010 for Publisher's Clearing House.  First of all, I have never entered that sweepstakes.  It also referenced "The North American Direct Sweepstakes."  The check they gave me was in the amount of $3,670.20.

The letter claims that "Ironplanet Services Inc. has been contracted by the North American Direct Sweepstakes to find winners who have not yet claimed their winnings."  This is also stated at the top as a Final Notice, however I never received any other notices.

The letter stated that I needed to call their number but there was no automated messages of what the company was, just that the mailbox was full.  The number listed was 1-778-865-6544 and to call Monday - Saturday 7 am to 5 pm PST.  It states that the check received is to pay any legal, insurance and processing fees.

There is also a name in the signature of the letter as well, it is typed as Jonhson Wisneski but the signature reads "Carl A Mann Approved" and the authorized signature on the check is Mg S. Elli.  The check number is a Wells Fargo check #10009789097 and really looks like a legit check too.

Also on the envelope it looks like it was mailed from Canada and the return address is:
STN Terminal 102
P O BOX 5532

"Winner" beware...

AUTHOR: spc3rd - Williamsburg (USA)

Everything you have described about the check you received and the "alleged" sweepstakes you supposedly won a monetary prize in...definitely stinks of a scam!

You indicated the check looked like an official Wells Fargo check.  I suggest you take the check to a Wells Fargo financial institution along with the other documentation that came with the check and make them aware that someone or some entity out there is using their name, logo, or whatever in their scam efforts.

I should imagine Wells Fargo would want to investigate the matter since incidents such as yours could easily generate some undesirable PR for them!
