I was excited to find a check in my mail for $4,980.00. but upon further scrutiny I knew it had to be a scam. Platinum Point Securities Inc. addressed a letter "Sir/Madam" - we are pleased to inform you that you are one of the declared winners of the SHOPPERS SWEEPSTAKES, Ticket # 498561256 and the lucky winning # 49-55-77-80-02. They went on to say that they attempted to contact me regarding the $250,000.00 I had won from a total prize of $5 million US dollars! It further reads:
The Claim Number is WA/SDH-0101. The taxes were $2,995.00 US dollars. Please do not attempt to use this check until you call Lewis McGregor at 1-647-894-7624. Contact Mr. McGregor within 5 business days. Congratulations Barbara Bryan (Promotion Manager).
I called information and got 2 numbers for banks in Michigan. 1-800-888-3595 and 1-800-347-7276 in Lavonnia Michigan. I called the bank in Lavonnia and the lady answered and verified that there was a Comerica Bank in Michigan, she could not tell me anything about the issuer - but verified by the routing and check numbers on the check that it was an active account.

I went to the internet to find the company and found this Rip Off scam site.

July 23, 2009 -- Update!!!
I called my "claim agent" Mr. Lewis McGregor at 1-647-894-7624 yesterday when I received the check - no one answered - the phone just rang. About 5 minutes later a man called back from the same phone number and said "who the F*CK keeps calling me". I said "excuse me" and he just hung up.
It's just sad that somebody somewhere will deposit this check in their bank and get ripped off.
