My wife used the self check out at a Hot Springs Wal-Mart. She entered her cash into the machine. The machine did not register the last twenty dollar bill that she entered into the machine.

She asked for assistance from the customer service representative. The customer service representative explained to her that my wife entered a ten dollar bill into the machine instead of an hundred dollar bill. My wife had entered an hundred dollar bill before she entered three twenty dollar bills. The machine even agreed that the hundred had been registered. The machine was only giving her credit for 140 of the 160 dollars that she input into the machine.

The customer service representative closed up the machine and advised her to enter another twenty dollar bill. In short, my wife ended up paying an extra twenty dollars to Wal-Mart due to the inaccuracy of the self checkout machine and the incompetence of the customer service representative.

Why self checkout ???

AUTHOR: Debbie - Cincinnati (U.S.A.)

While I don't doubt that the automated money machine at the self-checkout ripped your wife off of $20, my question remains WHY would you choose to do a large transaction like that (paying with cash no less) at the self checkout?

I'm a big fan of the self-checkout, but I use it when I only have a few things and don't feel like waiting in a long line - and I ALWAYS use my debit or credit card. There is no way I would shove over a hundred dollars into a machine - just for this reason!

That being said, the clerk should have pulled the machine and had management or whoever is running the show there at WalMart open it and count the money against the receipts. I wouldn't have accepted the advice to put MORE money in! CRAZY!

WHY has Religion become such a Rip-OFF?

AUTHOR: Joe - Austin (U.S.A.)

Televangelists are already crooks and frauds.

So are these social clubs that claim to be churches that do not practice anything in the New Testament, if I understand Christianity right.

I WANT to IGNITE A MAELSTROM of CONTROVERSY so these hypocrites will start thinking about what their NEW TESTAMENT ACTUALLY SAYS!

I am not a Christian. Just thought about converting but NOT based on what I have seen so far.

soooo wait a minute

AUTHOR: FraudInvestigator - Charlotte (U.S.A.)

So wait the cashier thought she only put in a grand total of $70 instead of the $160 that your wife was claiming then the CSR let her just deposit another $20 into the account which would total $90 out of the $160.00 transaction. I just have a hard time believing that they would not pull the machine to count the funds at that time as they would be looking at a net loss of $70.00 if the CSR was correct.

Hmmm well either way the machine either came up over to which I'm sure a call to the walmart and an explanation of the story could check against the books to see or the machine came up short to which I am sure you wouldn't be calling for.

Company policy regarding this type of incident

AUTHOR: Stargazer - Abilene (U.S.A.)

When there is a conflict in the amount of money claimed to have been paid Vs the actual amount paid, a manager MUST shut down the register and a till check must be performed. This means that a report for the register MUST be printed and compared to the amount of previous drops and the current cash inside to make sure that the claim of not getting the correct change/overpayment is accurate. This policy is in effect due to the amount of scam artists that will try to claim they paid with a $50 when they paid with a $20 to get back more change than they deserve. It doesn't matter WHEN you realize you got the incorrect amount of change whether it be when you get home or right outside the door, this procedure MUST be implemented. This is the policy. I am sorry you got ripped off.

Wal-Mart Self Pay Cash Back Grove City

AUTHOR: RipMeOffAgain - Columbus (USA)

I self paid with my debit card at Grove City, OH and asked for $20 in change as cash back. I only received a ten dollar bill and my receipt says $20. I was distracted with bags and didn't notice the bill until I got home. It was the only cash in my wallet and I didn't buy anything else on the way home. Now that was 24 hours ago and I am going back to complain today but guess that till will have already been cleared. My husband says the serial numbers on the bill should have been scanned by their machine, as well as cameras on the whole scene. I'm going to find out but expect to be treated like a fool.

Fool or fraud?

AUTHOR: WWWeb - Anytown (United States of America)

Why are you shopping at Wal-Mart?

http://wakeupwalmart.com/facts/

Did you ask a customer service manager to "count down" the machine?  These machines are being removed not replaced during store remodels...You may have had a valid concern - ask to speak with the store manager... If he/she does not take care of the problem to your satisfaction contact the district manager then the corporate office.

Oh I have included a link to some Wal-Mart facts for you to consider when answering the question posed to you.

Here are some interesting facts concerning poverty (not that it matters to you - or you would shop elsewhere...)

http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/09poverty.shtml

A QUESTION OF INTELLIGENCE:  If your wife knew she already deposited the correct amount of money - why did she feed more to the machine - rather than requesting (not demanding) assistance from a manager... Does your wife possess the intellectual capacity to handle money?  Is the reason you chose to make a public complaint on this forum because you could remain anonymous as you would appear as a fool or a fraud...

Too much money for the self check-out.

AUTHOR: Marianne - Ithaca (United States of America)

While I see where you would feel that you were ripped off, I have to agree with some of the other users here. Why did your wife make such a large transaction on the self check-out. I always thought it was more practical to do transactions under $50. It seems as if your wife ripped herself off. She put extra money into the machine when she didn't need to. She more then paid for her items. I would take this to higher management to see if you can't get a refund, but I doubt it. If the register computed both the amount of money owed, paid and also printed the receipt. Everything will match, and you will be defending a case with no proof.
