And your point?

AUTHOR: Ashley - springfield (U.S.A.)

Every job I've had for the last 15 years has required that I keep a phone. If at any point I did not have a reliable phone number, I could be fired.

pretty normal really, jobs like to be able to contact their employees.

Unbelievable

AUTHOR: Ken - Clinton (U.S.A.)

You don't have a phone?  What is YOUR world coming to?

An employer may need to reach you because of a schedule change, an emergency, or to query you about something at work that you may help with.

If I were a manager, I wouldn't hire someone without a phone either.  This isn't the 1950s after all!

Judy and Frank-please don't go to Wal-Mart

AUTHOR: Nc - Grayslake (U.S.A.)

After all the postings you have made in the past two days, why would you want to ? According to you, they call you racist names, punch you, don't pay you overtime and don't hire you because you don't have a phone.
BTW- (How can they not pay you overtime if you don't work there because you don't have a phone?)
What is REALLY your problem with this Walmart?

Compromise

AUTHOR: Opana - Cheektowaga (U.S.A.)

Perhaps you could compromise with Walmart and give them your e mail adress to contact you at instead.  It's a shame you have a computer with internet access and no basic phone.

hmmmm...

AUTHOR: Dsperin - Salem (U.S.A.)

If you don't have a phone, how did you get called for an interview?

As an HR manager, I wouldn't hire you either.

Keepin' it real...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - Chico (U.S.A.)

Stacey, one need not have a phone number in order to have internet access. For example, I have internet access through Comcast but my wife and I do not have active land lines in our home. We simply use our cell phones. The OP may be using naked DSL or cable access, WiFi or even using a library computer.

Going back to the original topic, I agree with the others. It's not realistic to expect a job without some type of telephone for employers to get a hold of you.

To Edgeman Keeping It Real

AUTHOR: BL Judgment Enforcement 718 909 6246 - Brooklyn (USA)

Before you insult Stacey, as to keeping it real.  I think you should keep it real!

Stacey is absolutely correct.  When you open an account with any ISP you must give them an active LANDLINE.  You may remove your phone in the future, but your line is still active for processing services.  I have ComCast too, and do not have an active physical phone, (just cell phones like you) but my line still has a number.  This is the only way your ISP can Track & Trace a problem you might have.  I only receive a bill from Verizon for $9.99 a month for my jack & line.

I will investigate Magic-Jack that have been advertised & I have been hearing about.  So let's keep it real.  If you know something we all don't, then enlighten us, and be specific.

Yes, this knucklehead could have used a library, or other resources.  I do find it doubtful, because this guy is a total reject, and I don't think he has the smarts, or knows what planet he is on.

Edgeman

AUTHOR: Stacey - Dallas (U.S.A.)

The reason I asked was because the OP has access to a pc be it in the library or at home

If he/she cannot afford a landline phone he cannot afford WIFI period - other than that the OP has no case period - and on that note I remember this individual was "beat up" at the same Walmart - Sounds like a load to me

Response....

AUTHOR: Edgeman - Chico (U.S.A.)

BL- At no point did I insult Stacey. Why would I insult her?

As for ISP access, I once had a naked DSL connection. No phone number required and the provider certainly didn't have my cell phone number.

Stacey - We're in basic agreement here though one doesn't have to be able to "afford" WiFi. He could simply piggyback on any open signal.

Priorities

AUTHOR: I am the law - Cincinnati (U.S.A.)

Ok, so you don't have a phone, but you have a PC and an internet connection. Too bad if you have to call 911 sometime.

Priorities. Get 'em.

lie?

AUTHOR: CodeBrown - (USA)

should have just lied and made up a number or something.. I got a google voice number I can use if I want to, even if I dont have a phone line it still acts like a real number, they can leave a message I can listen to it on the internet and I can forward the number whenever and wherever I want..

Give Me A Break

AUTHOR: Marianne - Ithaca (United States of America)

Why WOULDN'T they need a phone number. Like other users have said already. What if they need to contact you for scheduling, call you in for extra work, call you in case of an emergency? The world hasn't come to anything yet.

GET A JOB AND A PHONE

AUTHOR: WWWeb - Anytown (United States of America)

Get a phone and get a job... I work for Wal-Mart and  receive some forms of public assistance to supplement what I earn - but at least I am trying to make a living.  If you are using this lame excuse for sitting on your duff - get a job...   Unless you are disabled, I have no desire to support you as I also pay taxes...

If you are unable to afford a telephone (since you are seeking employment) ask a neighbor if you can use their number to give to perspective employers.  You might also consider prepaid cellular or a lifeline landline service...

Wal-Mart is always hiring due to a high attrition rate... Re-apply!!! - If you prove yourself, there are opportunities for growth... You might also consider taking a job somewhere while you continue to look for more suitable employment... A job will not come to you especially in this economy.   I am a Network Administrator - but at Wal-Mart - I run a cash register.   Good luck

no phone no internet

AUTHOR: randellmd - bedford (United States of America)

You can have internet through a cable provider and not have a phone. I have a cell phone i use.      Besides that, Walmart cannot call you when your off the clock to do business. They cannot call you to ask you questions about any work you've done.  You cannot even talk to management even in person about a "problem" while off the clock.  Walmart has strict policies regarding working "off the clock."  Anything that has to do with "work related issues" must be conducted while clocked in.  And yet i can guarentee it is just another of many policies they breach and have a double standard for.

#19 Ex-Employee

so your an administrator and a walm. cashier

AUTHOR: randellmd - bedford (United States of America)

So, you seem to be proud of working for "mobmart" but what will you do when they impliment there new "scheduling system" when you no longer have a set schedule and you have to work "when they need you."  You will not know day to day and week to week what your schedule will be.  How will you be able to plan your personal life or much more do your primary job (if you are active in it?)  One reason of this new scheduling system is that they don't want there employees working a second job at other places.  Just another way they are manipulating you. This shows that they do not care about their employees or recognize they have a life outside walmart.  what about those with children who are on a schedule to be picked up/dropped off at schools.  Especially daycares where they charge you extra fees if you are late picking up your children.  NO! Walmart wants you to plan your life and schedule around them! Walmart is getting worse and worse everyday with their "policies"  and the double standards for each one.  Working for walmart is like working for "pharoah" these days.  Less straw and more building?  Less employees but more work.  Walmart is America's sweat shop!
