Happy Valley Newfoundlands Karen Kellar I'm glad the hips were checked - that's the only thing NOT wrong with my dog! Nampa Idaho

In Nov. '05 I purchased my first "newf" pup, wish I knew then what I know now. Karen Kellar sold me the four-legged love of my life, unfortunately my girl ("Phina") came with a lifetime vet bill (good thing I work for a vet). When I first got Phina, Karen told me the kink in her tail must have been a small break from getting her tail shut in a door, I did think it was odd that her mother's tail was short for a newf, but the other puppies didn't seem to have a problem. At nine months old she had joints so bad she had blown out one knee (apparently her tail was the first sign of on-going joint issues, not just a break).
Now, Phina is 3yrs. and has two reconstructed knees, dysplastic elbows(next surgery), entropion, severe allergies (all hereditary) & who knows what else! I tried to call Karen initially because she was admittedly a new breeder, and I thought she would want to know that she shouldn't be breeding without more tests. She wouldn't return my calls... I then tried letters & e-mails... It's been over two years since I first started calling... still quiet on Karen's end. She has just been acquiring more breeding stock & popping out puppies like crazy without doing the recommended testing for "newfs". I didn't even want money back- just didn't want more suffering for others.
The worst part is that working for a vet, unfortunately I know I am not the only one who got a problematic puppy! I have seen several of Happy Valley Newfoundlands puppies come in for consults & surgeries. Sad. Every person says they were told by Karen that she had never had any complaints about a puppy!
I wouldn't trade Phina in for anything, but if you don't have access to veterinary discounts (& she has still cost as much as an inexpensive car), you probably don't want to buy a puppy from Happy Valley Newfoundlands.
Oh -did I mention that it's absolutely heart breaking to see her suffer???
The kennel where Happy Valley got some of their breeding stock also has a consumer alert against them (that's how I found out about the rip-off report).

Janel has never tried to contact me to my knowledge. She had a 2 year health and hip guarantee on her puppy in her contract. The kink in the tail was noted in the contract. I would have replaced her puppy with a new puppy and she would not of had to return her puppy, unless she chose too. I never told Janel that her puppies tail was shut in the door. I told her the the mom probably knelt on it when the puppy was born. I had Sidney check by my vet prior to purchasing her because of her tail and he said the tail was not hereditery. There has not been another puppy with a kink it its tail since Sidneys first litter. I am not sure what breeder Janel is referring to when she says the breeder I get my puppies from has a consumer report against them. My website has all of my contact information on it if anyone needs to contact me. I always return my customers phone calls and or emails. My females have 1 litter per year and I have 2 breeding females at a time I not sure if that is popping out puppies like crazy.
