LSS, Inc., Lone Star Subscription, Inc. Door-to-door magazine seller forged my check (and never sent my mag) Aubrey Texas

On September 17, 2007 a pleasant and glib young man (about 20 years old or so) named Jeremy Starkey came to the door offering magazine subscriptions on behalf of LSS, Inc. He said that if he sold a certain amount he would win a trip to the Carribean. Also he claimed to be a college student at a university in Oklahoma (I think, I can't remember exactly).
Despite my normally decent judgement about these things, I ordered a magazine for $20 and, since I had no cash on me, I paid with a check.
Later that month I was balancing my checkbook and saw that the check had cleared, but for $40. I looked at the image of the check included with my statement and saw that someone had written over the word "Twenty" to read "Forty" and changed the amount. It was quite obvious to me that it had been tampered with so I went to the bank. The bank manager I spoke to agreed that it had been forged and thankfully they gave me my money back. My guess is the bank wasn't going to spend the time to track down the forger over $40 so that was the end of it.
Needless to say, I didn't get my magazine either.
I imagine Mr. Starkey has a great future in politics once he finishes up with the magazine scamming business.

i just spoke w/ a LSS salesman who knocked on my door at 8:00pm.. anyway it was raining so i invited him in feeling sorry for him...he then gave me the sales pitch and i said i would pass just because i have had problems getting magazines from other door-to-door salesmen...especially road to success out of chicage...he assured me that this company was solid and he was just trying to win a trip to the caribbean and to beat the girls team....well when i told him thanks but no thanks, his attitude changed dramatically and he got really angry that i wouldnt buy his magazine...i just got off the phone w/ my local police dept. (fayetteville, arkansas), and they said there wasnt much i could do since i invited him into my house...
NEVER INVITE THESE PEOPLE IN...THIS IS A SCAM AND THE PEOPLE SELLING THE MAGAZINES ARE SCAMMERS...DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE 2 SECONDS OF YOUR DAY...
