    ...the right way!
    Corporate Advocacy Program
These people will send a person to your door claiming to be in a contest or some other thing trying to sell you a magazine subscription. Beware! If you even get a subscription it will be a duplicate, but more than likely you will never recieve it and you will be out however much money you paid. Do Not Give Them Cash! They are hyper and persistant so be firm!

The truth about the contest

AUTHOR: Megan - Centralia (U.S.A.)

I traveled with Liberator Sales for seven months a few years back, and the way it is supposed to work is this: Yes, there is an actual contest, but it IS NOT affiliate with any school, civic group, charity, camp, fundraiser college or local organization of any kind. It is a contest to earn points. Those points (calculated on total dollar amount sold in subscriptions) are tallied up to win a trip, (awarded once a year to the to highest ranking sellers.) and points are tallied to win bonuses, totaling up to 5,000 dollars. We were trained to tell people that we were earning money for our career choices (not really a lie, there a quite a few people who earn a good living doing this) and that we were practicing speaking to people...a half truth. If we made a sale, not only did we earn points, we earned a pay check.

For legitimate sales organizations, the subscriptions were real, and really sent out, just ridiculously over priced. Yes, we were pushy, up beat, and insanely chipper. But if you get a kid on your door, they should be ready and willing to tell you exactly what it is they are doing. If you don't mind helping a kid make a buck, and want to get your magazines as well, here are a few guidelines that I personally would follow:

1) Ask them what exactly it is for, and whether or not they are making any actual money off of it.

2) If they claim to be from a local school/organization, call the school/organization they say they are from!!!

3) Ask how the contest works...in detail. They should be willing to tell you.

4) Cash is ok, it is not stolen, but take down their full name, and make note of their sales organization number. Call the clearing house first....

5)Save your receipt!!! You may need it.

Good luck to all those who are dong this legitimately, and to all who decide to help them on their way.
