One thing I noticed while working for Walgreens is that your integridy is of the utmost importance. I am not saying you lack integridy by any means. However; what seems petty to most people, Walgreens management sees it in a bigger picture. I once saw a girl fired for taking the coupon ads out ot the Sunday paper's that were going to be thrown away anyways. They deemed it stealing. What would not be given a second thought or even be an issue at other retail stores is a Walgreens. I think the fact that it appears that you rang up your g/f. If you checked her out, that was a big no-no. We were not to check out our own family members, but have another clerk in cosmetics or photo. do it. And you stated that, "discount. I know that discounts are only allowed for relatives and employees. I was not married to her but I was going to marry her so I figured that since we were dating it would be " You should have followed your gut instinct and the training you received view the PPLs. Your manager may have assumed that you were of the same household and commonlaw man and wife.
If I remember correctly, accepting gifts from vendors was covered in the PPLs. It is wrong basically in most retail outfits. I applaud your honestly in your interview and the fact that you told them you forget to pay for a pop.
I'm not trying to be harsh, but looking at it from a loss prevention point of view...they have some valid points.
I'm not a cheerleader for Walgreens, but I am hoping to get back on there. Where I moved to presently does not have a Walgreens nearby. One is in the works in the area though. If loss prevention would put more effort into catching, making shoplifters pay a fine and looking for possible dangers to customers in the stores, that position would pay for itself. Instead they look for the little petty offenses which leads to insulting employees that for the most part are good employees.
