I recently bid on and won an item described as a 3.69 carat sapphire pendant with an estimated value of up to $825.00. When I recieved it in the mail I took it to 2 jewlers to have it appraised and was told it was a saphire but that they had never seen anything like it before. They sugested it had possiably been dyed, and that process had reduced any value it may have had. They offered me a look at it in a microscope and I had a chance to compare it to a "genuine" sapphire on a ring I was wearing. I could see at least two other colors other than the blue in the pendant. They assured me that the discoloration was not due to a heat process often used on sapphires to bring out their color. I could certianly observe the difference. And have asked for a refund.

Paramount-Auctions - Hot Jewelry Auctions Sold low end gem : Item not as described, value not as described Los Angeles California

AUTHOR: Tim - Ft Collins (U.S.A.)

I could see at least two other colors other than the blue in the pendant. They assured me that the discoloration was not due to a heat process often used on sapphires to bring out their color. I could certianly observe the difference. .

I then took it to a second certified appraiser who told me it was a mid commercial grade gem, genuine but not a "fine" gem stone as it was described in it's sellers listing.
