Don't throw boxes away!

AUTHOR: Cheryl - mobile (U.S.A.)

Why'd you throw the box away in just a week?? I never throw electrical items boxes away til after a month. I think that is the general policy everywhere. If you buy something from most stores they usually want everything it came with back for a full refund (makes sense to me). They ship it back to the manufacturer and that's more than likely their stipulations. It's a very generous policy compared to business practices around the rest of the world. Most of the Middle East and Asia operate as ALL SALES FINAL, BROKEN OR NOT. Maybe you can try to return it to another Walmart.

Walmart owes you NOTHING

AUTHOR: Jason - Pittsburgh (U.S.A.)

You bought the blender, took it home, opened the box and lost the box.

You admit that you plugged the blender in, and used it and it worked fine the first time. The moment you did that Walmart had no responsibility for the blender. You admitted that it worked, and now it doesn't. It's not Walmarts fault that you broke it or damaged it and to expect a refund for damage you did is ridiculous. Suck it up and buy a new one. Obviously you, and only you broke the first one. It worked when Walmart sold it to you, therefore they're not liable.

You shouldn't need the box to return a defect...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

I've worked in retail (consumer electronics) many years..and they should return or exchange the defective blender even without the box. Now some retailers have a stipulation where you may have to pay a "restocking" fee if the carton or other items are missing...but as long as you have the core product...I can't see a problem unless there is more to this story.

Now I do not know Walmarts stipulations with blender policies so I went to their website. I can't even find a return policy for appliances..so you may need to go into Walmart and ask to see the return policy for a blender. If it does not state you MUST have the box..they should return/exchange it..it's only been a week.

Now while I agree it is a good idea to keep the boxes and paperwork etc for 30 days or so....we are talking a Walmart blender here. Now with something like a computer or an expensive camera or other expensive electronics..I usually keep those boxes indefinitely..in case I wish to re-sell it in the future..it will re-sell faster and have more value with the box and contents. A blender will normally last years and then you throw it out or hand it down..I just don't think I would have kept the box either..unless I was aware I could not return it without the box. It's always a good idea to understand the return policy not only of the store overall..but of the particular item you purchase..just in case,

Now with a giant TV or refrigerator...most people would not even have the room to keep one of those boxes..unless they have kids who wish to turn it into a fort.

The box is not the only thing missing..

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

That there is definitely more to this story.  The OP said nothing about an exchange, they wanted their money back.  So we do not know if they were offered an exchange and refused, offered a store credit, or were allowed to return it with a "restocking fee".  However, generally once the item is used and they no longer have things such as the box, stores will default to the you need to deal with the manufacturer as a warranty issue.

Since it was only a week old and they still have the receipt getting it repaired under the Manufactures warranty should be no problem.  Which means that they could send it to them and have it repaired.

Perhaps the OP would be good enough to fill in some of this missing information.

This is how it's "supposed" to work..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

Even though most consumer electronics are made in china..and contain lead and other carcinogens...and mass produced by the giga-ton....not too mention "quality control" is and 8 year old child in a sweat shop (in other words..non existent)..the company selling said product in AMERICA...does hold some liability and is subject to our consumer protection policies, guidelines and laws.

Granted...we are talking a basic household appliance here. Surely if this was a washer/dryer..you would not have kept the box..since it would have taken up way too much room. Now, product warranties with electronics can be void if the item in question is PROVED to have been subject to abuse. So if this blender looks like you filled it with nails and razor blades...even though it's only been a week..they can refuse to warranty or return/exchange it. Nothing to do with having the box. It's a blender..not a $3000.00 item. So one question is...does the item show any signs of abuse?

How it works is as such...You give Walmart the defective blender. They grab a new one off the shelf and take it out of the box. They give you the one from the box..place the defective blender in the box they pulled from inventory..and send it back as defective. The blender most likely only cost Walmart a few dollars at most..so other then shipping and handling costs for the exchange/return..they have not lost much. It is part of doing business as an electronics retailer these days...defect exchange/returns are factored into NOP (net operating profit)..or in simpler terms..cost of conducting retail business and selling "crap" that is expected to have a percentage of returns..or 'failure rate".

If this blender shows no physical signs of abuse..by all means after a week fight it out. If the store will give you no satisfaction..consider returning it via mail.

Now if the  blender shows any signs of abuse..or can not be verified as a product Walmart currently sells..just splurge the 15 bucks and buy a new one.

Is the outlet good?

AUTHOR: Jim - Millbrook (U.S.A.)

First thing you need to do is check the Blender by plugging it into another outlet. If it works there's probably a bad outlet or fuse

Second plug something (Anything) else in the same outlet, if the other "Thing" doesn't work it's a fuse, if this "Other" thing works then you can be sure the new appliance is bad.

Third, yes let this be a lesson SAVE THE BOX, By the way, washers etc don't get to you in the shipping box, 99% of the time the installers remove and discard the "Box".

Robert..Walmarts return policy is 90 days..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

Which means within 90 days...returns/exchanges/refunds etc are done in-store. After that time period then the customer would need to deal with the manufacturer for any warranty issues. Some other items are less then 90 days but by reading the policy it dose not seem to apply to a blender.

As far as needing the box for a return..it is not stated in Walmarts policy so I can't see why they should refuse a refund. A restocking fee is also not mentioned such as with other companies like BestBuy clearly state in the return policy.

Return Policy

Walmart's Return Policy

Customer satisfaction guaranteed by repair, refund or exchange. Also, we follow any manufacturer’s warranties.

As an added convenience for customers, Walmart has adjusted its return
policy for the holiday gift buying season for items that have a limited
return/exchange period (15 days, 30 days, etc.). For these items
purchased between Nov. 15 and Dec. 25, the limited return period will
begin Dec. 26. This includes items such as TVs, cameras, computers,
DVD and music players which can have a 15-30 day return period.

Q: Is there a time limit on RETURNS?

A: Generally, we accept returns within 90 days after purchase. There
are a few exceptions, including the below examples but not limited to
these examples, to the 90-day rule:

  • Computer components and computer accessories must be returned within 45 days.

  • Camcorders and digital cameras must be returned within 30 days.

  • Computers and postpaid cell phones must be returned within 15 days.

  • Prerecorded music, movies, and software products must be returned unopened.

Jim stated..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

"By the way, washers etc don't get to you in the shipping box, 99% of the time the installers remove and discard the "Box"."

It doesn't matter if only 1% of the time you get washers "etc" in the shipping box.

The point is there appears to be nothing stated in Walmarts return policy that implies a blender has to be in the box to qualify for a refund/exchange..so it is a moot point.

I have worked in retail long enough to know how this works. Defective product can be sent in for replacement so the company does not get stuck with it (one week is well within the warranty period). Now even if there was nothing wrong with this blender..according to Walmarts policy, they would have to take it back regardless.

So I do not understand why this Walmart is giving the customer a hard time..unless there is something missing from the report.

I know at many places I worked...when ANY product is returned...box or not..once it is opened it can not be resold as new..so it sells discounted as an "open item". If the item is within the manufacturers warranty period and gets returned box or not..the product gets shipped back to the manufacturer for replacement or credit..that simple. Only stipulation is certain SPECIFIC items may be subject to a restocking fee if the box was open, or missing. However I can not find that written anywhere in Walmarts return policies so it may not apply here.

Since this blender was used...I doubt it could be sold open item if it does work since food touched it, so it would be getting sent back most likely whether it works or not.

Exchange instead

AUTHOR: Ceadda - PrivateTown (U.S.A.)

Why don't you just exchange it for the same item? They can keep the box from the new one and both parties should be happy.

And yes, walmart can expect you to keep the box. The manufacturer expects walmart to send a box back with every product being sent back. No one should be throwing out boxes the first week. I keep everything at least a month if not the full 90.

Ceadda....the box is irrelevent..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

It's not a matter of making "both" parties happy...it is a matter of Walmarts return/exchange policy..which does not state anywhere that a blender or any appliance is required to have the original box if returned...so regardless of what Walmart "expects"...if it is not stated in the return policy..so why should the customer be stuck with a one week old blender that is now as useful as a door stop?

And how do you know what the manufacturer"'expects"?? Have you been to China and asked? Do you think China's economy is going to suffer if the lead encrusted defective blender built by children in a sweat shop  is shipped back in a generic carton instead of the box it came in?

The entire blender with box costs very little...they should be more concerned with the customers satisfaction..if the box was so important it should be noted in the return policy..there is no "etched in stone" "given" or automatically "assumed"policy regarding the box of a 15 dollar non-copyrighted item submitted for return within the allotted time frame..get real.
