Instant Tax Service is run by many different franchisees. This means stores are individually owned and operated. While it may be true that you were charged over $700 at the store you went to, that does not mean that all stores charge that much. At least at the store I work at we do our best to charge less than our competition, H&R block, Liberty, etc. If you were dissatisfied with the service at one Instant Tax Service, look into another in the area.
The owner and I at the store I work at put a lot of time and effort into making our customers have the best experience possible and it really frustrates me when people do not see what we do and just complain.
Some things to know about most Instant Tax Services I have seen:
1. We do not hold onto your money any longer than need be.
2. We do our best to put the customers needs first
3. When the IRS screws something up and delays your tax return, it pains us just as much as it pains you.
4. While there are some franchisees who will try to rip you off, there are some franchisees of every company that will do the same. It is not everyone, or even really the majority.
I can say personally that I am not a money hungry loser, the owner of my store is not a money hungry loser. I care about the customer enough to stay up until midnight to 3:00 am many nights and still come in at 10:00 am seven days a week.
The last thing I want to say is if you do not want to spend money on getting your taxes done, then doing it yourself is free, but if you want generally caring people and good service, find a tax preparer or franchise that treats you well and stick with them. I have no doubt in my mind that the people who look at the franchise I work for will not be displeased.
