I am a customer at this family video. One day I saw an employee there multi-tasking while eating a sandwhich. I am a regular there so I jokingly asked her if they got breaks. She smiled , then said actually we dont. I was surprised to hear this since the employees who work there are on their feet for 8 hrs or more each day . They don't even have a break room . I guess they are expected to eat while no one is in line. This is ridiculous!

No breaks and don't count on having your scheduled day off

AUTHOR: Angie P. - Lake St. Louis (U.S.A.)

I worked for the Lake St. Louis store for just under nine months. I was the top salesperson for almost the entire time I was there (the only exception was my first month) and there were numerous times that I would be called in on my day off to cover for someone else. At one point right before I left, I had worked every day for three weeks due to covering other shifts! One instance included me coming in wearing jeans and a dirty t-shirt because I was at the hardware store with my husband getting supplies (we were replacing the floor in our downstairs bathroom and front hall). In addition, I wasn't even able to take off when either my uncle or my grandmother died (less than two months apart) because we were shorthanded . . . I wasn't even Management!

If you wanted a "break", you volunteered to take a deposit to the bank. At that time, you could also grab something to eat or drink as long as you brought it back to the store. If you were the only employee working that shift, you were just out of luck. I was fortunate enough that I had enough regular customers that would offer to run to the gas station or to a drive-thru so I could have something. Some would even drive by first to see if I was working before coming back with a soda for me!

I ultimately left because of the strain that was being put on my marriage and family life.
