This was the offer letter I received from AWP for their new and exciting financial education website The Global Speculator. I was excited to work on such a project, even though I had misgivings about giving out my information to strangers, first, and a new company, second. But I received an email account, login, a boss to whom I reported, a project, and a list of fellow employees before I ever even sent them my new hire paperwork. I thought I was working for a real company.
As did about 60 or 70 of my fellow "employees." And let me tell you, in four weeks, we accomplished amazing things! What a wonderful website we put together, full of extremely valuable information and such a prototype that we just knew the investors would sign on.
Then payday rolled around, and not a single one of us received our direct deposit.
Instead, we woke up to our corporate email account flooded with emails containing the subject line 'SCAMMED." And the first email that was sent with that subject was from the C.O.O. of the company. So we had to give it some weight...even if everything just seemed to make no sense whatsoever.
All this happened during the weeks of June 21st and August 4th 2007. I see that this group has once again started posting the very same job descriptions but with the name of AWP Group Research. They post for positions that work from home or telecommute and advertise for writers, researchers, executive assistants, administrative assistants and web designers.
Please do not apply to this company or any iteration of same. I have tons of proof to substantiate my report and will be happy to share same to any person who thinks this company is legit and to whom you are about to submit personal information.
If you have any questions, here's a great article written by one of my fellow "employees" and published in the Washington City Paper:
