corizon working in a under staffed medical dept. as a nurse in south polk co. jail, frostproof ,florida. Our nursing work is not all being done because of understaffing and inmates are even threatening me and othe frostproof, Florida

I am one of the few nurses that work at south polk county jail in frostproof , florida . We are contracted nurses with Corizon . This company is allowing us to work very short handed and expect us to do unethical nursing care . For instance while passing the evening meds , I must take blood pressures and initial sick call slips . This is very unclean medical care . We handle the meds and give to the inmates and then take their blood pressures, the handle the sickcall slip the inmate has been handling . This is done for hundreds of inmates that is in each area . Would you want to accept medications from a nurse that has just handled unclean sickcall slips and blood pressure cuffs ?

When a nurses call off a night nurse sometimes has to stay for 4 extra hours pass the 12 weve already worked just to pass meds on day shift med pass . This leads to mistakes . Some of the buildings are operating without a nurse to do sick call and inmates are wondering if they are going to get any care and are making threats on nursing staff and officers .We already had a nurse beat by an inmate and she almost lost her life because of it a few years ago . I was almost punched by an inmate the other night and would have been if not for quick actions of the officer present .

 Our DON Jason Berkowitz and our HSA Jean Murray could care less how over worked and understaffed the medical dept. is . There are many of us talking amongst our selves of resigning and going else where , where maybe we can make a difference and be appreciated.
