When is a value meal only a value to the corporation? The McDonalds in Moab, Utah charges you more when you order a 'value' meal. The breakfast meal that includes 2 sausage burritos, 1 hash brown and 1 soda comes to $5.19 before taxes. The problem is that each of these items are on the dollar menu. So by not ordering the 'value' meal, you will save $1.19.

While the consumer should be aware of what they are purchasing, this town relies predominately on tourism. Many costumers at this location are foreigners who may not understand how the menu system work. This whole practice seems a bit deceptive to me.

And McDonalds knows that this is happening. I spoke with corporate and they defended the practice. They said the items ordered al-a-carte are on a different menu than the value meals. It is the exact same food, just offered at different prices.

It's all crap anyway.  How can you eat that stuff?  Maybe the value meal has more paper wrappers/boxes etc.  My experience with food service is that the food cost less than the wrapper.  I know that the plastic lids on the drinks are the most expensive part of the drink. 

It is not the food that cuts the profit margin it is the advertisement and the wrappings, also the napkins, bags, condiments and straws.  This is what you are paying for.  So, if the same food comes in a different wrapper or box, you will pay a different price.

Mark up on the food can be 200+ percent.

-Perfect example of a Rip-Off; it's not illegal, but it is still bad business tactics to deceive those who don't want to scrutinize everything all the time.

It's easily curable - order a-la-carte. If everyone does, then they'll see the little ruse didn't work.

This is no way a ripoff.  All the prices are posted plainly.  You can make your own decisions based on them.  I don't know why the prices are what they are, they can charge whatever they want and you can purchase the products or not.

Ridiculous complaint.

Hell - the store I work at has breakfast "mini meals" ... a sausage mcmuffin, sausage biscuit or a burrito, a hasbrown and a soda ... not really a deal ... whether you buy them seperately or in a "mini-meal" - it still comes to $3.24.
