I went to the drive thru at Wendys and odrered a great biggie drink. The drive thru menu had a single line that read:
Medium $1.29 Biggie 1.49 Great Biggie 1.79

Fortunately, there was a display which showed me the exact price they were trying to charge me. The sign showed 1.79 for the drink, and then they pushed the button to charge 79 cents, which is the price to upgrade an entire meal to great biggie size, whereas I was just getting a drink. I wasn't upsizing anything.

I asked what that was for, and the person flat out told me that I was wrong and that the great biggie drink was $2.58, no matter what the sign said. I went inside the store, and pointed to the menu inside, which said that a Great Biggie drink was 1.89, which didn't even match the sign outside.

I argued with them for three minutes and there wasn't a single person in the whole store who could tell me why they would charge 79 cents more than the signs said they did. I finally left without any drink at all.

I'm convinced that the people at this store either don't know how to use thier own registers or that they were straight up trying to rip me off. They have no customer service skills, and they hardly speak English. Do not eat at this store.

I put in ex employee b/c I haven't worked for the company in almost 10 years. They're service is getting worse and it seems like its an I don't care type attitude. When I order food I ask for no cheese and they put cheese on it. I sent them an email by telling to start paying better wages to the employees. I'm getting tired of it and its a disgrace.

About the price gouging talk to a consumer relations person and tell the district manager b/c my father also stated the same thing.

i agree 100%! these fast food sweatshops need to start paying more than they have to by law (min. wage) employees dont care because they know they wont ever get much more,if anymore than minimum wage! its sad that these slave drivers know ppl are desparate and need a job and know they can pay slave wages and at the same time make millions! i believe this is why the work ethic has gone to hell in this country. ppl are tired of busting their asses for a wage they can barely pay their rent with! theres a saying, if you pay peanuts. you will get monkeys!

Do you really believe paying people more will make them better?

If that was so, why are Airport Screeners still the dumbest lot of professional tards out there?

They went from being paid minimum wage, to over $20/hour. I wouldn't risk my life to their "capable" hands for any amount of money.

Minimum wage should be ZERO. If I can get someone to work for free(volunteer), why should I turn it down? Minimum wage jobs are for starting out. Nobody expects that person to work for the LEAST AMOUNT THE EMPLOYER CAN PAY THEM all their lives. Most, nearly all, move UP the ladder to bigger and better things. The ones who don't? They'll be heading back to New Orleans soon.

One time I went through the drive thru and ordered two large chilis. When I got back to the office I found out the two large chilis was more like two large chili waters. There was hardly any beans or meat to speak of and one of the chilis was only half full. When I called their customer service line they had the nerve to explain to me that the cooks just didn't stir the chili. I told them there was no way that was possible because I was there just before closing and the chili I got could be used to quench your thirst with. They intentially watered down the chili simply to fill my order.

On another occasion I went the the drive thru and ordered a twenty piece nuggets. Now they don't have a twenty piece nuggets but they DO have a five piece nuggets for 99 cents. I only got a single order of a five piece nuggets. How hard is it to multiply 4 times 5? It equals 20 stupid! Charge me for 4 orders of a five piece nuggets. DUH! Apparently Wendy's just doesn't care about customers anymore and their employees do not pay attention to what the customer orders.

Hire people with a basic education. Or is that to hard to understand Wendy's.

Why not ASK for four 5-piece nuggets? After all, THAT is what is listed on the menu, not a 20-piece nuggets. Sounds like you are being picky and intentionally trying to cause a disruption.

I've worked at Wendy's for two years and I know small errors such as yours happen from time to time. We are under a lot of pressure to meet service times and mistakes happen.

Now, in your case, the employees should have just charged you $1.79+ tax, there is no reason for them to argue with you. Did you ask to talk to a manager?

I worked at jack in the box for 6 months and I could not even afford to live on my own. These places are big time slave drivers and A**holes. I told the manager off when I was falsly accused of stealing and fired just because she did not like me. I was the hardest, on time, and great customer service employee but it did not matter because I was asking for a raise. Wrong thing to ask for at a sweatshop. Tumwater, WA jack in the box. Slave Drivers? Come on....

Here's a tidbit for you since you think fast food restaraunts are slave drivers. Go look at job listings on some of their websites. You'll find that folks in upper management are by no means paid like slave labor. When you get into store management and multi unit operations, there are even benefits involved. And guess what....these people are NOT just hired into these jobs. They work their way up from the bottom. Where else in America does someone with honest motivation have the OPPORTUNITY to earn $60,000+ a year without a college degree? Tell me, I want to know!

I am a young articulate Caucasian who was well versed in the cash register at wendys the 3 months i worked there. We were a franchise, so our cash registers were old, and even our registers had a system that a monkey could operate. you press the soda that they choose for example coke sprite lemonade. then a code list would come on the screen, a small might be 02, a medium 03 and a large 04 and so on. I was a really well devised system, so if they messed that up they were not fit work anywhere.

the biggie button was a completely separate button, nowhere near the soda.

The rebuttal guidelines allow personal experience. this is not gossip, as i personally experienced it. The location i worked at was infested with cock roaches. they were few, and small but they crawled in and out of counters.

I suggest you make friends with a local restaurant, get to know your atmosphere, intimately. and monitor rip off report.

Great economic lesson, I am a business owner and have had my share of troubles with ....umm, unmotivated employees, so I tried paying them more, it just made them want more for less work.

Paying them more doesn't mean they'll perform better, new hires at a higher pay scale may attract better potentials, but then you'll get low moral if the others find out, so I say pay them all the same and watch the revolving door.

I agree with you.  Wendy's has a lot of nerve charging so much for their food.  I don't go to fast food restaurants very often, maybe once or twice every 2 months, but I have seen Wendy's prices go up considerably in the past year or so.  Of course they used the "gas is expensive" excuse when it was at $4/gallon, but now that gas prices have dropped substantially Wendy's prices are still sky high (and seem to be rising).

They also try to trick you in advertising the lowest price for a combo (which is smaller than what they originally sold), but in small print want to charge much more to get a "regular" sized combo and even more for "Biggie" size.  After that I hadn't been to Wendy's in over 6 months.  But a few days ago I was starving and Wendy's was the closest place to my job.  So I pull up and order a chicken biscuit combo with an orange juice and it was over $5!  They even charged an extra 50 cents for the orange juice.  As a pulled off, I realized that this wasn't the price on their menu, but I didn't have time to turn around and dispute it so I just left and decided I'll NEVER spend another dime at Wendy's. 

If you think this is bad, when I was pulling up to order my food, I saw that their triple stack combo is $7.99!  RIDICULOUS; at those prices you'll be better served going to a real sit down restaurant and getting some real food.  Better yet take that $8 to a grocery store at get at least a couple of meals for less than what Wendy's charges for one.

It is just strange for me to hear anyone complaining about Wendys prices. I hardly ever eat any fast food but if I am low on cash once every few months I go to a Wendys for lunch since it is right near my school.

For the money you can get A LOT more then you can get at McTumors or Burger Crud.

You just need to shop smart.

Now I do not know if all Wendys are like the one near my school...but on the menu inside on the lower right...is the "el cheapo" menu I call it. For a small handful of change I grab out of my cup holder in the car..I can get 2 double stacks and a fries for 3 dollars plus tax. I do not buy drinks because that is where THEY make all the money. It cost them about 2 cents and they charge almost 2 dollars or more depending. So get the drink elsewhere or drink water if money is that tight. No one is forced to buy the most expensive items on the menu...those are for people who do not care how much it cost..or suckers.

If two double stacks and a small fries don't fill you...you can add a couple more items off the cheapo menu and still be around 5 bucks..but for 3 dollars and tax I am stuffed for the day.

As far as service...the one I go to is fast and friendly..but it is a minimum wage job so I don't expect to find any brain surgeons working there. However the service is usually extremely fast..too fast I would say which may mean it is not fresh but under a lamp or something. But when you're broke..your a joke as they say. It's cheap bottom line.
