I have been attending Kaplan University since Feb 2010. I have been battling with the Financial Aid Dept. since I started. I am having a problem getting my Financial Aid Disbursmants from my loans. I am trying to Transfer and it seems I am trapped at Kaplan because they say I owe a Balance. My plan was to pay off the balance with one of my disbursmants and then soon transfer to a local college. I dont think they are ever going to send me my student loans. Every week it seems they are verfying my account which is holding me up. I need some sort of legal advice on this one. They have enrolled me into 2 more classes and told me if I drop out Im going to owe them that balance. Can I still drop out of these two classes and wait to get my Financial Aid that they already owe me for the 2009-2010 FASFA year? Or should I go ahead and do the courses? What should I do about getting my loans if Kaplan University Online is robbing me.

I currently attend Kaplan and I completely understand your frustration with their financial aid department. It seems that the dates they set for applying your financial aid is meaningless. Unfortunately, they are not always forthcoming with what is required to receive your stipend checks.

In my three years at Kaplan I have had to fill out four educational expense applications. It is possible that you have not filled out one of these applications. If that is case then they will not cut you a stipend check. You must contact financial aid and request the application be emailed to you. You can then print it out and fax it back to them. If you do not have access to a fax machine you can use a free online fax service. I hope this helps.
