On 1-26-99 I contacted Vanguard in regard to a debt consolidation
loan. I spoke to a rep by the name of Robert, he took my info and
called me back and said I was approved for a 20,300 loan, which
would clear my debt with my creditors. I asked him questions
pertaining to the loan such as interest rate and how many years and
payment, which he answered. He informed me that a 289.00 application
fee was needed. I sent a money order for that amount the next day.

I did not hear from him for a few days so I called him. He
told me that they were referring me to a company to handle the loan.
Again, almost two weeks passed and I finally was contacted by an
individual from a company called Goldshore. This individual knew
nothing of a loan and wanted to set up a debt managment program for
me, this is not what I wanted and I realized that Robert had
misinformed me.

I immediately called Vanguard, they told me that I needed to
write a letter and send any materials they sent me back to them, and
my money would be returned. I did so, and another two weeks went
by. Finally I received a letter of denial, I called once again. I
spoke to Nancy in customer relations, and explained that I was
denied on the basis that I did not cancel within 5 days, but that
goldshore had taken two weeks to contact me and than I wrote the
letter to get my money back. She assured me that if I wrote a
letter of appeal that I would get my money back. Well, that was
four weeks ago and still no money.

I have called Vanguard, 14 times, I have been put on hold, hung
up on and promised to be called back. I finally got Nancy on the
phone and she like the others was quite rude and told me that I
was denied and that was that.

The treatment of me by this company has been horrendous, I
tried to explain to them that the reason I needed the loan
because of a large debt, so 289.00 is quite important to me and my
family.
