Sobeys Inc., Sobeys In Grand Bay, New Brunswick Sobeys Inc. Angela Thom Employee Harassement Grand Bay New Brunswick

I am a female University student who worked part time at the Sobeys grocery store in Grand Bay,New Brunswick, for the past 3 years.

I was placed in positions of authority and supervision throughout my employment and always received positive employee performance reports, I also received a customer service reward from the company.

About a year ago the store promoted Angela Thom to the position of Front End Supervisor,which made her my immediate boss. Since her promotion , Ms.Thom has used her position of authority to harass me, belittle me in front of other employees for no reason and to make working at Sobeys unbearable ,to the point where it has affected me emotionally and physically, I had to go to a doctor because I couldn't eat or sleep, and he documented the reason for this as being harassement at work.

I was told in front of witnesses by the store Manager that Ms.Thom is intimadated by me because of my knowledge and skill in my job. So why am I the one that has to suffer?

The store Manager would not do anything about this ongoing harassement and abuse of authority,so I felt that I had no other choice but to resign my position and seek employment elsewhere. Once I resigned the store Manager said she didn't want me to leave but understood my position. After going through my personnel file with the Manager we found notes and memos by Angela Thom that were never ,legally ,or otherwise supposed to be in my file. The Manager immediately took them out and destroyed them, this just further proved my case about the situation I was forced to endure.

I have been told I have a human rights case for harassement against Angela Thom and Sobeys Inc. for letting this happen repeatedly, but as a student I feel I do not have the time to invest and emotionally cannot deal with this. In essence I was forced to leave a job I love because of one person's ego and petty jealousy and also the company,Sobeys Inc. will not stand up for it's employees.
