I just opened a Jack Links Deli Cuts Bag bought at the local Walmart in Elmira NY and started eating while watching a movie with the lights out. I noticed they didn't taste as fresh as usual. The last one I put in my mouth was fuzzy. I spit it out and dumped the bag. They were all covered with mold. I'm getting some pretty bads cramps and may go to the hospital. The batch number was 2AN 12:21 "Best By" OCT 2 09 (10 months from Now!!) UPC 0 17082 89097 9. I've sent an e-mail to Jack Links as well. If you have any Jack Links products I strongly urge you to open them up and look at them really well before you eat them. How does dried meat with significant preservatives MOLD in the bag. If your gagging right now think how I feel. What happened to this meat? I took photos and intend to take this to the health department on Monday. I'll send to anyone who wants the photos. That's all I have time for now.

Posting photos...

AUTHOR: Edgeman - Chico (U.S.A.)

Try posting them on Photo Bucket or Image Shack or a similar service and provide the links here, if you need to share the photos. You can also ask the editor to include the photos in this report.

First of all, I hope you're okay. That is certainly a disgusting thing to experience. I also hope that you contacted Wal-Mart so that they could investigate the product.

I'm not certain how Wal-Mart is ripping you off here, but they should be notified before someone else buys a snack of potentially bad meat.

How is this Walmarts fault?

AUTHOR: Leisa - Lansing (U.S.A.)

I would take what is left of the bag back to walmarts and get your money back, but how could Walmart know it was a bad bag if it was sealed and the expiration date is in oct 2009?? This truly is an issue with Jack Links.....

Response to Leisa "How is this Walmart's Fault?"

AUTHOR: Jim elmira ny - Elmira (U.S.A.)

Leisa,

The end supplier of goods or services is always potentially liable for those goods or services because the goods and services are provided in exchange for money and in doing so the seller warrants the product saleable and appropriate. This is always true in a for profit transaction. In lieu of this couldn't corporations always point and transfer blame to the entity that provided them with their goods and services proceding up the supply chain. If a plane crashes - you sue the airline. You are not expected to determine what airline supplier did not process/manufacture which metal part correctly, or who supplied the defective fuel that subsequently caused engine failure.

Whoever took your money that's who you go to, otherwise you would be lost in a seemingly endless chain of finger pointing.

Maybe some worker in China sneezed accidentally or defecated intentionally in the spice mix they might sell to Jack Links. Each company in the chain must perform due diligence and when a mistake occurs anyone in the chain could incur any degree of fault. How could Walamrt be at fault? hypothetical example : a Walmart employee intentionally or unintentionally did something wrong. Maybe the Jack Links pallet sat on a loading dock for too long in the sun but did this happen on Walmart's dock or Jack Link's or maybe some raw material was tainted and sold to Jack Link's. If I died of food poisoning is it my families responsibility to find that hypothetical guy in the spice factory in China. No, absolutely not and what is Walmart's liability - that would be for a court of law to decide otherwise - it might go as follows "Gee, my husband died eating the food you sold me"... Response: "Oh I'm sorry - here is the $1.95 refund (as a courtesy) we're done,.. can I help whos next?". Would you want to live in a legal system like that? I think it would be mean spirited and deliberately OBTUSE to suggest so! As an aerospace engineer I can tell you many planes have crashed and people died because someone, somewhere didn't want to lose their investment in their product and above all their profit with fault going collectively to the airlines, the vendors of parts and even the vendor of the raw metal forging - do you know that the military documents even where the metal is mined and the details thereof. At each transfer of product and product raw materials it is incumbant upon the reseller that utilizes these to make sure that the product or constituents are resaleable and appropriate and willful neglect, malice, incompetence all fall into the story time and time again. So if you sell something you better make sure it should be sold right down to someone paying you for a ride in your car (if the Firestone 500 tires blow up - they can sue you -did you make the tires - No! but you took their money - unless you are in the cab business - rideshare).

Since you didn't ask ... I vomited after eating the Jack Links until I couldn't vomit anything more until I felt like my insides would fall out or perhaps blood would come out instead, the diarhea is only subsiding now but the headache makes me feel cross eyed even now. So would a refund of my purchase price make it all OK - No! and no one had better suggest it to me that's ludicrous. Would it make it ok for you?

When the Volvo machined hub fractured in a P&WA or GE aircraft Engine and killed a woman and her lap-sitting baby in a Boeing or Airbus Aircraft - Would refunding the airfare to the decedents' family make things right?

What if she and her baby survived but the person in front or behind died but she incurred expense and delay and bad things happened because she and her baby din't get where they were going when they were promised or maybe they were traumatized for the rest of their lives because the remains of the deceased were everywhere, on them - around them. Who should pay? and how much? - Boeing/Airbus, P&WA/GE Volvo or the Volvo employee that made the mistake? and yes a woman and her baby DID die in this manner and it was horrific; all the various companies mentioned made profit in the process - outside of Volvo not sure of who the other parties are but you can google it. If you were on that plane would the refund of your tiket cover it. Not so simple... thank God there is a venue of legal recourse in this country. Are you aware that defective products unsaleable in the US are dumped (sold) in other countries because they can avoid legal recourse in doing so? Some pretty big company names are on that list.

I wrote this so maybe someone will avoid getting sick or worse. Will I be eating Jack Link's again - probably Not. File it in the "don't do as I did catagory" If I buy a toaster and it doesn't work and I'm inconvenienced and have to return - yeah that's reasonable. But Leisa, suggesting I get my buck back from this and it's all ok is pretty insensitive and I dare say hypocritical. The guy who ate the poison trail mix from Walmart probably agrees.
