Just Energy U.S. Energy Corp Not illegal, but definitely immoral, scaring people into bad decisions Internet

These folks changed their name recently, but their scam is still the same.  They come to the door, ask to see your natural gas bill, and tell you you're "eligible for rate protection".  They make it sound like they're trying to help you, but actually they're a company that locks in your natural gas price at an inflated level for a long period.

True, if natural gas prices skyrocket in the next couple years, this could save you money. But you're basically gambling on the future of a market that Just Energy understands better than you do.  They inflate the price to make sure they make money off you (NICOR, the default supplier, just passes on its wholesale gas price with no markup).  If you sign a contract with Just Energy, you will definitely be paying much more for gas in the coming months (maybe 20-30% more!) in the hope that a year or so down the road that price will look like a bargain.

I slammed the door when they came to my house, but they talked my elderly mother into signing a 5-year contract.  Now she's stuck paying more than TWICE the rate she would be paying if she had stayed with NICOR.  In the 2 years she has had this contract, she's paid hundreds of dollars more in gas bills than she would have under NICOR.
