Harlem Furniture ripoff deceptive company Schaumburg Illinois

We purchased a living room group from Harlem Furniture last year on a "no interest/no financing for 1 year" plan. We were fairly satisfied with the product, but the sequence of events that occured after delivery was what made our impression of Harlem Furniture go sour.

A few weeks after our purchase, we were billed a few hundred dollars for some insurance plan that we declined at the point of sale. After dealing with an extremely unhelpful sales rep back at Harlem, we were instructed to call the financing company to reverse the charges. ("Harlem has nothing to do with its financing department")

After searching for this alleged company (they changed names after we made our purchase) we ended up getting the "run-around" from the banking staff. It took a lot of patience while being transferred to various phone reps and having to rehash the story a dozen times, but about an hour or so later after being on hold, we finally managed to speak with a supervisor that hesitantly reversed the unauthorized charges.

A few months later, my husband and I decided to refinance our house. Upon doing so, we had our credit report pulled and were notified that Harlem's financing company had charged us double for our living room furniture on two separate accounts. So to our mortgage company it appeared that we were in way more debt that we really had! This of course required a lot more phone tag and written correspondence with the finance company's supervisory staff until if was removed from the credit bureau.

Beware if you are purchasing something through Harlem's financing compamy!!
