I saw the ad of GSM Garage Doors-Gates-Fences in the San Diego North County PennySaver, promising "FREE Estimates".
However, they charged me $45.00 for a call out fee. I called them, referred to their ad and explained and was told that I called them initially under the wrong phone number (!?....) and therefore they will keep charging the $45.00 (this according to "Mary", the "supervisor" that I had asked for after "Diane" the initial phone contact, on 1-800-501-0772, "explained" the ad with the FREE Estimates" is only good for new installations....
So much for a written promise....
The guy from GSM that came out to look at my garage door problem (broken spring) gave me a quote of $475.00 (!) to replace both of them. I will get this done from a different company at $175.00 (and even that sounds like a lot of money).

I know this company all to well. They pull bait and switch for a living. Mary the so called supervisor is just a receptionist and dispatch. This company actually has 2 names usa garage doors and gsm. What they do is have someone come out and sell high and if that doesnt work they call back after a day or two posing as another company. They also pose as various companies with the internet and fake adresses, ie, carlsbad garage doors, vista garage doors, el cajon garage doors, etc..If you ever have a service company ask for a paid estimate that is not agreed to, DONT PAY! They cant take the money from.you nor will they take you to court for this. The average cost for broken springs is about $100-150/ spring plus labor. Garage door repairs are dangerous but you should always use a company that you trust and will educate you not blow smoke up your a**, which is what gsm is.
