I pulled in to the Sun Gas Station and noticed there was no signage stating the price per gallon for the gas, but was in a hurry to get to the airport, so proceeded to the pump. Once I picked up the pump, I noticed the price per gallon for regular unleaded was a whopping $5.69 per gallon!
I thought it was a mistake, so started pumping the gas and when I got to half a gallon and it was up over $2.50 I realized there was something going on. I stopped and asked others at the station if their pumps were showing that price and they were all also upset and said it was that high, but they'd already started pumping and had to get to the airport, so they were going to do the minimum and then get on the road. I did the same.
Is it LEGAL to have a gas station and not post the price per gallon? Is there something that can be done? I called 911 and they said they get lots of complaints about that station and would send a police officer out there, but they've done that before, so what else can be done to protect others?
Thank you

Especially in Florida. Then whatevers left over tops off the gas tank!
I wonder if this scam company is putting a "hold" on your credit card like other stations Ive read about?
That would suck to begin pumping, notice the price, then go to another station only to have your card declined.

You pumped gas after you saw the price. Too bad. Don't call 911 for non-emergencies.

A lot of complaints about this gas station

From what I recall this gas station is literally the very last one before you get to the airport. There are some others about 3 to 5 miles going back towards the city.
There is supposed to be some local law that was passed requiring gas stations to post their prices you can check out some of the other postings on this site. I think Robert had a news story that was run. You can always check with AAA or something to see if they are aware of anything.
Other than that there are price gouging laws that go into effect when there is a hurricane coming and evacuations are ordered then the state will go in after the fact and fine the station owners that raised their prices and they usually settle by giving the people that bought the gas at the high prices free gas for a certain amount to fill ups or something but you have to keep a receipt.
This falls under the classification of poor planning and waiting until the last possible minute to fill up the gas tank of a rental car or getting back on the toll road or interstate (that is the market that this particular station targets).

Yes it is legal

Unfortunately, it is legal. This particular station is infamous for charging inflated prices. The city did recently pass an ordinance requiring stations to display prices, but I'm not sure when it takes effect. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I read an article about this station on CNN so people have noticed. The law is being changed to require the prices to be posted. Then, at least, you'll know you're going to be screwed over.
