    ...the right way!
    Corporate Advocacy Program
Save your money!!! The training program at LA Fitness is an absolute scam.

First, it's a total bait and switch. They put you with their one good trainer for your introductory session, and make it seem as if this is the person you will be training with at all times. Nope. Next time you come in they switch you to some other jerk who has the interpersonal skills of someone who can't get a job anywhere else. Oh, wait, that's if they haven't double-booked the trainer you are now supposed to be with. Or if the trainer has bothered to show up. By the way, as I found out from their corporate offices this morning, their contract does not stipulate that you will be with the same trainer for all of your sessions. In the less than 2 months I was in the "program," I was with 5 different trainers!!!

Second, they totally lie to you about the services they will provide. You pay upwards of $200 for your initial evaluation, which is supposed to include them taking your measurements, calculating your BMI, finding out your goals, etc. They give you a fancy book where you can track your progress in terms of changes in those measurements, and have the trainer write down your workout program. Guess what? Until you pitch a total fit about not having those services provided, no one will do your measurements, etc. You know what else? The trainers refuse to use the fancy book because they refuse to give you programs to complete on your own. As I found out from my enlightening conversation (read, yelling match) with their corporate office, they don't actually have to provide any of those services. The contract does not state what "training" means, just that they will provide you with a trainer.

Third, when you experience problems with their services -and given that every time I went in to the gym another customer was complaining, will experience problems - they beg you to deal with the issue in house, instead of calling the corporate office. DON'T DO IT!!! They unsuccessfully tried to "fix" the problems I was having, and once I was too fed up to give them another chance, I called their corporate offices. Since I didn't do that initially, they had no record of my being unhappy with the services. And let me stress to you that it doesn't matter if you are not happy with the services. The only thing they will do is offer to contact the manager of the gym, and set you up with someone else. That, or let you pay 50% of your remaining contract to cancel. If you are then unhappy with those services, again, it doesn't really matter, because the contract does not stipulate what type of services you should receive. At that point, they may forward your complaint to the VP, and they can decide if they want to allow you to cancel without a fine.

Whatever you do, don't sign up for training at LA Fitness!!!
