In February 2009, my husband and I decided to get memberships with Golds Gym here in St. George, Utah. I signed us up and the guy said I was getting a great deal at $65 a month with childcare. We began going very frequently. I immediately noticed that some of the things the sales man said who signed me up weren't exactly truthful. He said that we could bring our kids in anytime to the childcare, while we worked out without limitation on them being in there. That was not true, I had to go get my kids after an hour and half of working out and had to make an appointment for them to be able to go in there a week in advance!
The man also said that I could cancel my membership when I wanted to. That was so far from the truth!!
I also began having some very bad health issues, and had a bad episode at the gym. I couldn't exercise anymore due to my health and doctors orders. I had to quit working. I later found I had a brain tumor. I called several times stating that I wanted to cancel the membership and they said nope that I was in a legal binding contract and had I would be sent to collections if I didn't pay. I wasn't going to pay for services I was not using and I told them that. 4 months ago I began recieving calls stating that I would be sued if I did not pay $3000 to this collection agency on behalf of Golds gym.
I am saying to all of you considering going to Golds in southern Utah... DONT. I now am doing better health wise and am going to a gym that has unlimited childcare and there are no contracts required, and the gym is just as nice. What Golds is doing is absolutely wrong and unethical. I am sorry to put it this way, but they are raping us for services not rendered and completely decieved me. I also have a friend who worked for them, and her mother is a GM for a Golds up north, said that they get the money owed to them by delinquent members in tax write offs every year so not only did they get paid for what I couldn't pay to them, they now are trying to make me pay for it too. Even though they have been paid already. They will have been paid twice as much! That to me is a scam!
Enough said about this awful company and franchise here in Utah. Hope no one else gets scammed this way.
