L.A. FITNESS Hard to believe all the dishonest, unethical"membership cancellation' stories; but THEY ARE TRUE Internet, Nationwide

In Jan of 2008 I was in New York when my son decided that he wanted to join the LA Fitness in our home town of Encinitas, CA.  "NO PROBLEM". the local recruiter said! Just get your mom on the phone ans we'll take care of it over the phone".  From, three thousand miles away, as my son stood in their parking lot, I gave them my credit card number andpresto, hewalked inside and picked up his membership card. MAGIC. oLess than 8 weeks later, he had decided on a different gym so I called to cancel.  It seems that you can join by phone but cancellation require a specific "prcess of cancellation".  Unfortunately, this process seems to be beneficial only to LA Fitness because 'we don't have any record of your cancellation in our file", is the mantra no matter who or how many times you call. Just a small sample: the phone number (on my credit card satement) is their international number that requires a extension number oir it automatically hangs up.  How does LA Fitness get away with this?  How can this be legal?

After 20 months, someone finally said,"I'll forgo the policy of cancellation" and take care of this now.  She took  my e-mail to send confirmation and just maybe, this ordeal is over.

Except, one thing, they managed to stretch this out long enough to get over $600.00 in membership dues that was not ethically or morally theirs to take.  If I wasn't flying between the coasts, taking care of my mom, I would not have let this gone so far but I was over-burdened at the time and did not have the stomach to take LA Fitness on while dealing with my mom's alsizmers. Just locating their corporatre office street address was time consuming.  It is clear that thety 'hide' from angry clients.
