LA Fitness Multi-club vs. Multi-club-multi-state vs. multi-HEADACHE Centerville, Ohio

Joined LA Fitness and thought I was getting a membership that would allow me to go to any of their clubs nationwide.  Spoke with a gentleman that identified himself as the facility manager and was offered either a home club or a multi-club option.  I selected the multi-club option and thought I was good to go.  Had to pay $100 initiation fees and the highest monthly fees in the area @ $30/mo.  Not a bad gym but very little perceived ability to ask for help from the staff. 

No biggie, until I tried to go to a club out of state.  The front counter attendant told me that I was not eligable to work out in a Chicago-area club with my multi-club membership from Ohio, that I really needed a multi-club, multi-state membership. 

What??? 

Called my home club and the manager was not there, the guy who sold me the membership no longer worked there and for an additional $99 I could get my membership upgraded.  I explained that I was sold a membership that should work, and the girl on the phone told me it was in the agreement, my word vs. theirs and the guy didn't work there any more.  Basically, too frickin bad.  The original guy who sold me the membership never even MENTIONED the concept of 3 levels of membership, and I specifically said I wanted to work out out of state. 



I was planning on raising a fuss, but really, with the "liar liar" attitude that was expressed over the phone; no thank you, I will take my money elsewhere.
