I was interested in working out at a gym that was located less than 1 mile away from my home when i re-discovered lady of america in saginaw, i went in was shown the gym by a very nice lady and asked to sign many forms. In my previous experience with LOA of Bedford, you could give a 30 day notice and quit the gym. NOT the case with Saginaw LOA...
I have recently had a change in my financial situation as my husband has lost the income that we had when i signed up in Feb, 2010.
Apparently, you cannot quit this gym. they offered a freeze for 3 months, but they just tack on the add'l cost and make your contract longer. AND TOLD ME I HAD TO PROVIDE PROOF that my husband lost his job.. how insulting is that.. which I did and his employers looked at me like i was crazy.. Just to quit a gym? and I said NO you can never quit this gym.. this is just to freeze the automatic draft for 3 months so i can pay my house payment.
there is an automatic renewal of this contract as well. you have to write letters to the financial company within 30 days to cancel. in my contract it states buyer notice must be sent to ABC financial within 30 days .. ect.. then i find out that is not even the financial company that they use currently.
I want out of this contract, or I am willing to suffer the credit score hit and decline any attempt by lady of america to access my bank account.
Is there any help at all out there? The photo copy of the contract I have does have my signature on it, and i am an intelligent woman, the math was added after my signature; they say i owe 1361.88 for membership dues and 779.40 for tanning which i just wanted to "try". THEY NEVER explained to me that i would have to pay and the contract was uncancellable and automatically renewed without a 30 day written notice. Or I would have NEVER ever signed..
