Golden Fowler quotes price and then doesn't honor it.

On December 28, 1999 I was quoted a price of $1150 for a 3 piece wall unit by Nancy at Golden Fowler Home Furnishings on Garfield Road in Traverse City, Michigan. Wanted overnight to think about it, verified information that evening and told her I would be in the next day to purchase it. When I went in on December 29, 1999, she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about when I mentioned the agreed upon price, wanted to know if I had it in writing then proceeded to play with her calculator coming up with a new price. She concluded that she had added wrong, and the price would be $350 more. Nothing she could do about it, I could either pay the larger price or find something else. I felt that she should have honored the quoted price, but of course she didn't. This was a major purchase for me and I had spent countless hours researching manufacturers, furniture construction, etc to find the piece that was good quality for my money. I really felt that this was a fair deal, it was not a case of too good to be true. She was very unapologetic, and seemed to have no time for me once she realized I couldn't afford $1500 for the piece.

I have to wonder if this was a scam to get me excited about this piece and hope I would pay the additional money since I was sold on this piece. We had discussed the price several times, plus I had mentioned that my budget was $1100 but the extra $50 was workable. The fact that she immediately questioned the quoted price when I am ready to buy leads me to believe she knew what she was doing.

I don't expect any resolution to this other then I appreciate the chance to vent about this and warn others that Golden Fowler may be playing games on quoted prices -- GET IT IN WRITING.
