On July 21st our home air conditioner quit working. Since we are new to this area, we called about 10 air conditioning companies to inquire about their service and chose three different companies who offered free service calls to come to our home so we could make an informed decision to either repair or replace our air conditioner. Each company spent a few minutes checking the unit and gave us a free estimate for both repairs and replacement.

We had leaks in the evaporator coil, condenser coil and accumulator so we made a decision to replace the entire system. We did not select Accurate Heating and Cooling as their estimate was almost $2,500 higher for the identical tonage and warranty. When we told them we were going to have another company replace the unit they offered to come down another $500 in price. That was still way over most of our other estimates so we did not have them install our new unit.

About a week later, we received a $125.00 invoice from Accurate Heating and Cooling for their "leak check" which was suppose to be free. They had told us on the phone there was no charge for estimates and they did not leave us an invoice when they came out. Nowhere on their invoice does it mention there is a service charge if they do not do the work and they are only billing us now because we had the work done by another company so they weren't able to rip us off an additional $2000 ! This is a family owned dishonest company!

#1 Employee

a couple problems with your statement

AUTHOR: Josh - Bradenton (United States of America)

My father and I are the only employees that work for the company. I remember this call and have a few things wrong with your statement.
1. There is no such thing as a "free SERVICE CALL". Service calls mean that work is done and needs to be paid for. An estimate is something different. Most companies, including our company, does free estimates.

2.When we got to you house it was raining. We added freon and checked for a leak in the air handler in the garage. Found a leaking evaporator coil. We then came back the next day to see if there were leaks in the outside unit(because we couldn't check in the rain). We took the unit apart and found leaks, charged it up with freon to see if you could get by, but will come up with a price in the mean time. That is a service call, not an estimate. If we showed up and were told that the units have leaks and you want a price on replacing, than that is an estimate.

3. So that means if we come out and diagnose the problem, and other companies  come in and dont have to diagnose the problem that nothing should be paid for our work? Also, you system holds quite a bit of freon, and at $30 a pound the invoice could have been a lot more. We paid for the freon that we put in your system.

4. I looked up the estimate that is in our files. We gave you a price for an American Standard 15 seer unit, which is not a cheap unit. American Standard is what was requested by you and is a top of the line unit. It was only last month that they have come down in price to be more competitive. You got a Goodman unit. You are not comparing apple to apples, they are much cheaper for a reason and you will need that warranty, especially if the installing company failed their inspection(which they did, it is public record). You get what you pay for. Look up consumer reports and see how many bad things are listed about that brand of units. We refuse to sell them for a reason.

5. I am sorry we could not help you further, but next time you should call a company and I am sure that they can explain to you why you have recieved a bill. If you check this is the only negative report my father has recieved in almost 12 years of business. We do not rip anyone off and we are very honest people.
