I was contacted on 5/5/09 , led to believe company would install waterproof system much like three other companies I interviewed, but he added removal of water and watersoaked carpeting, and mold remediation, and he lowered his price by 400. dollars and he included instant loan approval.
I was told the job would take 2-3 days to complete. on 5/26/09 6 very young men arrived and started the job at 8 am and by 9 pm they came upstairs and said the job was done and demanded the money. I said I would not give it to them at that time as I wanted to have the job inspected first. They became more aggresive and when I still refused, they called the boss/owner david brown, who started to demand I hand over the money and started to yell at me, and said he would take me to court if I didnt hand over the money.
I was becoming quite frightened, and asked the six men to leave. The next morning I received a phone call from one of the worker who stated I was scammed and the job was not what was what I was told. also that things were not done correct.
I was contacted by phone or coming over here every other day for demand of the money in a very threatening manner. this lasted for several weeks and then I was threatened I was going to be taken to court and that I was being charged 18% per day until I paid, and if we went to court, I had to pay all court costs, and time consumed at a rate of minimum 250.00 per hour for all repairs and any time spent coming over here. They also stated in the contract backside which I wasnt aware of that, they are not responsible for any code violations.
I then contacted the licensing bureau and they informed me that david brown was not licensed as a waterproofing salesman and it was mandatory. I then contacted the local building codes department, who informed me that a permit was required and it was not applied for. He contacted the company and required them to pull a permit and meet him at my home to tell them what to do, which was to open up several spots to show what they did.
Upon opening up the required areas, the company then said that they were supposed to fix the faulty areas before building codes came back, and I said no, building codes had to see what was right or wrong and tell them how to fix the problems. I asked them to leave.
When the building codes person came out, the company came out as well and arrived at 7:30 am and I was not told of this, and sat in my drive until 8 am. the building codes department said he was coming out and he would notify them when to come back.
I showed the building codes man that the outside drain around the house that is supposed to be hooked up to the sump pump crock was not,it was left open behind some plastic so that the water would go under the floor and foundation, and that only two of three seep holes in each block was drilled, and the whole system he said was to be installed, including foundation protector,,cove plate, cove cap,and three holes in each block. What I received was a hole in the floor, dirt removed and field drain tile placed, covered with stone and cemented over. This allows water to come in, go under the floor and foundation and cause more damage than if I had never had it done.
I am seething over this as a senior citizen, and I know that somewhere there is a law about this matter.
